Truck Driver

Job Purpose

As a member of the Operations team, you will collaborate with colleagues to manage food donations and distribute food to member agencies in Mississauga.

Key Performance Areas

Driver Responsibilities (90%):

  • Operates a 26' truck equipped with a reefer and lift gate.
  • Conduct thorough Pre-trip and Post-trip inspections to ensure vehicle safety and compliance.
  • Perform pickups and deliveries across the GTA, providing exceptional customer service.
  • Load and unload shipments onto the truck, which may include manual lifting or “hand-bombing”.
  • Inspect orders prior to shipping/pick up to verify product quality, and proper skid stacking/wrapping. Obtain secondary inspection as needed, maintaining delivery logs and BOLs
  • Adhere to cold chain management regulations and report any safety concerns to the Warehouse Manager
  • Follow assigned routes and schedules, adapting to changing circumstances and effectively communicating with your supervisor.
  • Comply with all MTO regulations and safety standards during operation
  • Ensure the truck is fueled, cleaned, and prepared for the following day's activities
  • Handle and store products according to safe food handling standards and procedures
  • Report any unsafe practices or equipment issues to the Logistics Supervisor
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development to stay updated on industry standards, contributing to a positive work environment.

Education and Experience

  • 2-3 years of experience in a logistics environment
  • Ability to manually lift up to 50lbs
  • Excellent customer service skills and demonstrated ability to work as part of a team
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and to adapt to rapidly changing priorities
  • Proven ability to self-supervise, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends
  • Mandatory Qualifications:
    • 3 years of commercial/heavy driving experience
    • Class DZ driver's license with a clean Driver's Abstract and CVOR
