About FIND

Find, a subsidiary of Homeward Trust Edmonton is a social enterprise that contributes to ending homelessness through providing furniture to previously homeless community members that have accessed housing through the Housing First program. In addition, Find also supplies low-cost, quality furniture for sale to the public to support the mission of Find or provided to individuals to establish their new home.

Position Summary

Processing Associates are an integral part of Find making sure that all donated items are safely and efficiently sorted, priced and placed in their appropriate areas according to established standards. Processing consists of cross training and encompasses the sorting, cleaning, pricing and placement of hard furniture, books, media, housewares, home décor, seasonal, artwork, electronics, and other items.

Duties and Responsibilities

Sorting

  • Sort and direct items received into proper designated areas and bins
  • Evaluate household items for quality, condition and visual appearance
  • Clean items thoroughly to display in our stores for sale
  • Price items by following established pricing guidelines and affix price tags to items as required
  • Move merchandise to the sales floor and place in the appropriate area(s)
  • Maintain store and department cleanliness by sweeping, dusting and removing unsellable items
  • Participate in recycling initiatives (blue bin and electronics).

Housing First

  • Prepare and mark boxed dish sets and pot/pan sets for the Housing First program.
  • Remove and stage Housing First picks as per client chart in assigned warehouse bay(s) from the retail floor.
  • Receive and account for product orders (beds, vacuums, cribs, and additional product) on receipt from suppliers.
  • Assembly of pre-purchased furniture as directed.

Testing

  • Ensure the functionality of electronic/mechanical items for Housing First/Retail floor.
  • Clean and repair items as per established policies and procedure.
  • Dispose of unsellable electronics as per established safe disposal methods.
  • Affix price tags as per pricing guidelines seeking guidance for unknown article values.
  • Merchandise and place product as per store layout and in conjunction with front store staff guidance.
  • Maintain cleanliness of work area and general warehouse space.

Warehouse/Production Area

  • Load/unload furniture (pickups/deliveries) for clients, customers, and donators effectively, securely and safely utilizing all required materials and/or equipment/straps available.
  • Process hard furniture for the sales floor carrying out cleaning/dusting/minor repairs as required.
  • Price hard furniture as per pricing guidelines with guidance from warehouse supervisor, manager and Front of Store Staff as required.
  • Dispose of furniture deemed unsuitable for resale as per policy & procedures.
  • Loading vehicles effectively, securely and safely utilizing all required materials and/or equipment/straps available.
  • Performing furniture inspections as provided by in-house training, showing discretion and professionalism in accepting or denying donations.
  • Safely using tools to repair, tighten or disassemble furniture.

Store/Customer Service/Donation Door

  • Assist customers with in-store purchases/donations (loading/unloading of vehicles).
  • Participate in established training and maintain WHMIS safety and paperwork requirements.
  • Assist customers as required when on the sales floor or as requested.
  • Cover donation doors to assist donors with their items. Removing them from vehicles and into our warehouse in a safe and professional manner.
  • Inspect all donated items that come into our warehouse and taking items to their appropriate areas in a timely manner.
  • Be knowledgeable about our processes and procedures as well as information that needs to be passed on to customers and donors alike.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Qualification, Skills and Experience

  • Minimum of High School or GED equivalent.
  • Approachable with good interaction/people skills
  • Possess the ability for pricing and sorting procedures, and product display and promotion guidelines.
  • Eye for Detail.
  • Able to work in a team environment as well as independently.
  • Maintain an open and honest attitude while making moral decisions.
  • Continuously look to improve oneself and the organization in any aspect including but not limited to processes, communications, tasks and customer experience.
  • Prioritize safety in all tasks, ensuring the safety of self as well as fellow Team Members.
  • Must be able to work with steel toe shoes/boots, be able to lift up to 50 lbs, and be able to stand for long periods of time.
  • Able to work under pressure.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Strong verbal, written communication, and reading comprehension skills.
  • Solid analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Must pass a criminal record check

This position is temporary, with an anticipated end date of August 31, 2024. Please note that hours of work will be based on full-time status/availability, and that assigned shifts may include weekends.
