role requires earlier or later days depending on needs and supervision of

the team)

The Role

The role of the Registered Dietitian is to be an ambassador for Wholesome Kids Catering while educating and sharing knowledge related to pediatric nutrition with parents, customers, children, and the Wholesome Kids Catering team. The Registered Dietitian will be integral in the Menu Development process and learning and supporting our Allergy team.

Success

The successful incumbent will be able to develop new initiatives, generate ideas that support our Trusted Partner focus, and professionally execute on agreed upon initiatives while integrating into the Wholesome Kids culture. The successful incumbent will be a self-starter, be comfortable speaking in front of others, have the ability to apply research and guidelines in a practical manner, and have a positive outlook.

Qualifications and Experience

  1. Bachelor's Degree in Dietetics, Nutrition, or equivalent from an accredited university
  2. Completion of a Dietitians of Canada accredited Dietetic Internship, or equivalent
  3. Member in good standing of the College of Dietitians of Ontario
  4. 5 years' experience in dietitian services, preferably with a pediatric focus

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, written and verbal
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team; a self-starter
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, experience using ERP systems and/or nutritional analysis software an asset
  • Possess initiative to develop systems, programs, and materials
  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Education and Content Development
  • Generate nutrition-focused articles and healthy recipes for the Wholesome Kids Catering website and social media
  • Provide quotes and answers to nutritional questions for monthly newsletter, “Ask RD Virtual Sessions”, Parent and Community Based presentations, or other content on behalf of Wholesome Kids Catering.
  • Work closely with Customer Care team to listen and answer nutritional questions from parents and customers.
  • Develop, deliver, and evaluate interactive nutrition-focused workshops for children, and nutrition learning sessions for centre administrators, and parents on current nutritional trends, Canada's Food Guide, allergies/dietary restrictions, and general health and wellness
  • Share the Dietitians of Canada's annual Nutrition Month campaign resources with Wholesome Kids Catering team
  1. Menu Development
  • Be an active member of the Menu Steering and Development Team
    • Provide menu and recipe ideas and suggestions to ensure a varied and nutrient-dense menu offering appropriate for growing children
    • Work closely with Production Manager, Chefs, and Allergy Administrator
  • Assess nutritional value of meals and snacks and provide recommendations where changes are required
    • Implement nutritional guidelines in accordance with company's internal nutrition policy, developed from national, provincial, and municipal guidelines
    • Recommend menu applications based on Ontario Dietitians in Public Health menu planning guidelines and any emerging nutritional research or best practices
  • Participate in the sourcing of quality ingredients and products
    • Collaborate with existing food vendors and suppliers to explore new menu additions, seek opportunities to bring on new vendors and/or products that align with Wholesome philosophy
    • Obtain and assess product specifications, including ingredient declarations, Nutrition Facts Tables, and product origins for new products
    • Manage nutritional data for reference by other team members
  • Prepare Portion and Allergen Guides with each new menu and maintain and update the documents incorporating any changes and/or modifications.
  • Assist with inputting new menu items into ERP as part of the menu development process, particularly assisting with Allergen substitution items and working closely with the Allergy Administrator.
  1. Nutritional Expertise
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest nutritional science research and best practices related to nutrition in child care settings
  • Provide nutrition education, consultation, and feasible solutions in response to inquiries from centre directors, supervisors, or educators and members of their parent communities to:
    • Resolve any concerns or questions around menus
    • Address children's specific needs (may include design of special menus for more complex dietary restrictions)
  • Participate in community and Trusted Partner events to represent Wholesome Kids Catering and share nutritional expertise
  • Contribute knowledge and expertise to Wholesome Kids Catering team to aid in problem solving and decision making
  1. Other Responsibilities:
  • Develop a strong understanding of allergy substitution process and act as a “back-up” for the Allergy Administrator when they are on vacation or during peak activity times. Being confidently capable of making modifications to allergen meals based on ingredient availability and communicate effectively with the entire team through the change.
