POSITION OVERVIEW:Startec Compression & Process is currently recruiting an Apprentice Pipefitter to work at our Shepard Shop (9423 Shepard Rd SE, Calgary, AB, T2C 4R6). Are you a recent graduate of the pre-employment apprenticeship program for pipefitting and eager to apply your newfound skills in a dynamic work environment? We are seeking a motivated individual for a four-month contract. In this role, you will have the opportunity to put your training into practice under the guidance of experienced pipefitters and benchfitters. You'll play a crucial role in fabricating and installing piping systems for compression and process equipment, gaining valuable hands-on experience, and further honing your skills. This position offers a supportive learning environment where you can continue your professional development.
Shift Details: 5:50 a.m. - 4:20 p.m.KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPI):PIPE FABRICATION Pipe Fabrication & Installation

• Support experienced pipefitters in fabricating piping systems for compression and process equipment, following engineering drawings and specifications.
• Assist in the installation of piping and control systems, supports, valves, and spools ensuring compliance with project requirements, safety regulations, and industry standards.
• Prepare materials for fabrication and installation, including measuring, cutting, threading, and bending/fitting pipes to required dimensions.
• Assist in handling/rigging and bolting of spools.
• Assist in conducting hydro testing on spool assemblies according to company procedures.
• Assist in documenting work progress, including material usage, hours worked, and any issues encountered during fabrication and installation, ensuring accurate record-keeping.
• Read and interpret P&ID (piping and instrumentation drawings) and GA's (general assembly) drawings to assist with assembly processing piping systems.

Tools & Maintenance

• Use various hand and power tools and equipment safely while abiding by the health & safety rules/regulations
• Maintain and organize tools and equipment used in pipefitting activities, performing routine inspections and repairs as needed.
• Maintaining a clean and organized work area, and helping others maintain their work areas

Compliance

• Adhere to all safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and your colleagues.
• Assist in conducting quality inspections to verify that fabricated and installed piping systems meet the required specifications and standards, identifying and addressing any deviations or defects.
• Actively participate in training sessions and workshops to enhance your skills and knowledge of compression and process equipment, pipefitting techniques, and safety practices.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Enrollment in or completion of a recognized apprenticeship program, in pipefitting.
• 1 year's experience as a pipefitter or labourer in a relevant department, demonstrating proficiency in fabrication techniques would be considered an asset.
• Ability to successfully pass a pre-employment physical, alcohol, and drug test
• Familiarity with various pipe materials/grades would be considered an asset.
• Basic understanding of engineering drawings and technical specifications
• Strong mechanical aptitude and manual dexterity
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment and follow instructions closely.
• Willingness to learn and develop new skills in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
• Effective communication and teamwork skills.
