Job Summary

As the Technical Director your role is to provide oversight to Peace Portal's technical department and ensure the ministries of the church receive excellent audio/visual support. Successful engagement in Sunday morning services, weekly rehearsals, seasonal and special events, and various other ministry events and programs will be dependent on your technical expertise and leadership. Additionally, your role will be to work with, recruit, and train tech volunteers leading by example in humility and excellence. The technical components of Peace Portal's 1100 seat sanctuary and nearly 70,000 sq. ft building will fall under your leadership to develop and create healthy and sustainable systems of use. As you work alongside the Worship Pastor and Pastoral team you will play an essential role in creating space for people to worship God, receive biblical teaching, and grow in community.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely and collaboratively with the Worship Pastor for Sunday services, the Facilities Director for developing audio and visual upgrades in the building, and with the Ministry Operations Pastor for long term capital tech upgrades and maintenance
  • Facilitate audio/visual support for the entire church campus and lead technical components, directly or through oversight, of all ministry events including weekly rehearsals, Sunday Services, funerals, and seasonal and special events
  • Recruit, train, schedule, encourage and supervise audio and visual volunteers in sound, lighting, camera operation, video production, and livestream
  • Facilitate set up of tech systems for ministries to easily operate basic tech tools for mid-week events; overseeing and supporting the youth department's tech needs
  • Oversee the recording of services and post-production maintaining a high quality of consistent results
  • Maintain production assets including audio/lighting/rigging/stage equipment, ensure appropriate care, upgrades, safe and tidy storage, and manage inventory
  • Provide training and support for all tech teams, to help people grow in Christ and share their gifts
  • Collaborate set design and the seasonal creative refresh of the stage for sermon series/special events
  • Remain current on worship trends, technology, training, and best practices
  • Maintain a positive attitude towards people and the church, encouraging them to get connected
  • Build and sustain positive working relationships with current volunteers, staff, and external vendors and contractors

Skills & Experience

  • Significant experience in stage production for corporate worship in church settings
  • Professional experience in some or all the following would be a distinct asset: audio visual installation, live event production, live broadcast experience, theatre management
  • Strong working knowledge of audio, lighting, and video consoles to develop and facilitate integration and give leadership to volunteers
  • Demonstrated passion and experience in facilitating corporate worship encounters through tech
  • Candidate should be able to produce, or be able to receive, Dante certification and demonstrate proficiency on Yamaha CL and Martin M-series platforms. Dante level 2 or higher certification is essential to operating Peace Portal's sanctuary systems
  • Candidate ideally has a Certified Technology Specialist certification or equivalent based on experience
  • Proficient knowledge and experience with ProPresenter
  • Candidate should be task and time oriented with a good attitude and kind demeanor. This position is a first in/last out type of role and carries significant dependencies for Sunday services
  • Demonstrated ability and experience in building and equipping healthy teams and leaders
  • Strong written and verbal communication
  • Experience in basic financials like purchasing, invoicing, and reconciliation

Qualifications

  • Education and certification in live technical production and/or sound engineering, or relevant experience
  • Successful criminal record background check, and vulnerable sector check and reference
