The Volunteer Coordinator works closely within the Communications and Community Relations team and across the organization to promote, lead, and manage volunteer and practicum student engagement. The Volunteer Coordinator will lead the development and implementation of YW Calgary's volunteer and practicum student strategies to identify and fulfill immediate and longer term organizational needs and opportunities. This role will act as a champion for volunteer and practicum student engagement internally and externally and will create and enhance YW's volunteer and practicum student opportunities, programs, and practices.

This is a Full-time position working 37.5 hours per week; Monday- Friday with a Hybrid work schedule, 3 days in office, 2 days remote. Some travel may be required for various events.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • In the role of organizational business partner, steward the development and implementation of the volunteer and practicum student strategies integrated with YW Calgary's strategic workforce plans
  • Develop and align volunteer, practicum student strategies, workplans, policies and processes in conjunction with programs/departments to address immediate and future needs across the organization
  • Ensure YW Calgary's mission, vision, Practice Framework, and equity, diversity, and inclusion principles are integrated into all aspects of the volunteer and practicum student experience
  • Remain current on volunteer trends and innovate the strategy, approach, and program as appropriate
  • Act as a resource for programs and departments wishing to engage volunteers (individual and group) and practicum students to recruit, onboard and train
  • Develop relationships externally vital to volunteer and practicum student engagement
  • Represent and champion YW volunteer and practicum student opportunities externally to recruit volunteers for a robust and readily available volunteer program
  • Develop and coordinate the strategy and any initiatives, or events for volunteer and practicum student appreciation.
  • Manages the recruitment, selection, and scheduling of volunteers in support of event management
  • Work with programs and departments to pro-actively identify and develop opportunities for volunteer and practicum student engagement through regular needs assessments, workforce planning, project planning, etc.
  • Develop capacity for volunteer and practicum student engagement organization-wide, including internal education and advocacy
  • Develop streamlined processes that allow for daily activities to run smoothly to allow for strategic, deeper volunteer and practicum student engagement and experience
  • Update and track volunteer and practicum student outcomes in the database for reporting purposes
  • Develop a performance review process for volunteers and practicum students to support their successful contributions and development
  • Develop and report on key metrics and provide analysis to continuously improve and innovate the volunteer and practicum student strategies and programs
  • Foster and contribute to a culture of inclusion and equity in a diverse work environment; understand and recognize that individual differences significantly contribute to YW Calgary's success in its programs and workplace environment
  • Integrate equity, diversity, and inclusion principles as aligned with YW Calgary's values and Practice Framework
  • Understand and remain current with YW Calgary Health, Safety, and Wellness (HS&W) policies, practices, and protocols and ensure work is performed in alignment with YW's culture
  • Identify risks in alignment with HS&W and risk management frameworks to pro-actively create awareness and injury/illness prevention
  • Use all safety materials, equipment, devices, and tools required to safely perform work in alignment with YW's role and task requirements
  • Share individual accountability to create and maintain an inclusive environment that fosters a physically and psychologically safe workplace

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

  • A clear Police Information Check, including a Vulnerable Sector Search, and an Intervention Record Check is required upon commencement of employment.
  • Education in a related filed such as non-profit studies, communications, marketing, human resources, Volunteer Management event
  • Volunteer Management Certification considered an asset.
  • Minimum 2-5 years of related volunteer management experience
  • Strong computer skills, MS Office Suite, UKG Pro
  • Has considerable knowledge of principles and practices of volunteer resource management
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders through a variety of means
  • Motivated self-starter to achieve results; results-oriented
  • Demonstrated ability to develop strong partnerships and relationships; collaboration, teamwork and partnerships
  • Advanced training or certifications in volunteer management
