THEMUSEUM is looking for a creative, enthusiastic and innovative University or College co-op student to join us this summer to be our Camp Supervisor who will work directly with our Family Experience Manager to make sure THEMUSEUM Summer Camps are as amazing as possible. The Camp Supervisor is responsible for assisting the Family Experience Manager at THEMUSEUM to plan, run, and carry out daily activities for the Summer Day Camp program that hosts campers on-site at our facility from July to early September. Prior to the start of camps, the Camp Supervisor will support the Family Experience Manager with research and planning for the camp's themes and daily activities and assist with administrative tasks. When camp is in session, the supervisor will be responsible for implementing activities day-to-day, leading and supervising the Camp Leaders, and facilitating a fun, educational and valuable day camp experience for all campers.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Researching, developing and scheduling new content and activities for Summer Camp sessions.
  • Assisting the Family Experience Manager with administrative tasks
  • Signing campers out of their daily sessions
  • Organizing crafts/games in advance
  • Monitoring and replenishing consumables needed for crafts and other activities
  • Teaching other camp leaders and campers a variety of educational themes/activities
  • Engaging in interactive, supervised play with campers during off/on-site activities
  • Enacting disciplinary actions when needed
  • Able to perform first aid procedures

SKILLS:

  • Experience with educating and explaining STEM-based knowledge
  • Experience leading camp activities with children and youth
  • Passion for working with and educating children
  • Experience delivering oral presentations and communication
  • Demonstrated time management, leadership and communication skills
  • Ability to enthusiastically present accurate, engaging and age-appropriate programming
  • Ability to work independently, multi-task and problem solve

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Currently enrolled full-time in a University or College co-op program.
  • Knowledge/skills in one or more of the following areas: S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math), Education, Social Sciences, Recreation and Leisure, and/or Museum Studies.
  • First Aid and CPR Certification
  • A valid police background check (Vulnerable Sector)
  • Aged 18 years or older at the start of Summer Camp (July 8th 2024)
  • Legally authorized to work in Canada
  • Must be able to spend the majority (>60%) of the day standing and walking with the campers, and be able to lift at least 40 lbs.
