MY HOSPITALITY TEAM

Hospitality is the relationship between the MSA and all the guests that interact with the MSA Student Centre. We create a welcoming environment and inclusive food experiences rooted in genuine hospitality that help students feel like they belong at the MSA.

WHAT YOU DO

The Operations Supervisor works closely with the Senior Manager, Hospitality and supports the organization through the regular monitoring of all MSA Student Centre, performing operational tasks, asset allocation support, liaising with the college on IT & maintenance support, light equipment maintenance, risk assessments, Health & Safety, addressing student concerns and ensuring that our spaces are activated in a way that prioritize student experience.

Can follow direction in an effective and timely manner to ensure all initiatives are equally and fully supported. Student engagement is a priority, and you actively support a diverse population of students, located at multiple campuses, and understand the importance of a safe, clean, and activated environment.

Primary Accountabilities:

  • Support the MSA by completing tasks focused on student use and engagement of the MSA Student Centre
  • Safe and efficient setup and teardown of physical assets, working in collaboration with all departments, other stakeholders and student staff.
  • Responsible for health and safety outcomes with a facility access lens as a member of JHSC, and supporting to create a safe environment for staff and students.
  • Support student staff with a focus on mentoring, including CICE students

HOW YOU DO IT

Responsibilities:

Coordination

  • Maintains efficient communication with other departments regarding their needs for space activation
  • Create and maintain tools for organizing MSA requests spaces, furniture, and light equipment assets
  • Utilizes the Student Experience calendar and a task-based system to
  • Facilitates internal room bookings, ensuring details are timely, confirmed and communicated with staff.
  • Track and address daily and preventative maintenance issues (including pest control, cleanliness and waste management)
  • Coordinates an inventory program for MSA storage

Spaces

  • Oversees the usage of MSA student spaces, including daily opening, closing, furniture layouts, and music.
  • Facilitates the setup and teardown of furniture, equipment and supplies to support the student experience
  • Seasonal setup, maintenance, cleanup of Mitchell Terrace including working with Sustainability Department on terrace garden
  • Maintains cleanliness and waste collection in student centre or additional spaces not overseen by Mohawk College.

Health & Safety

  • Participates in JHSC meetings, actively providing feedback and addressing concerns while ensuring the MSA remains compliant with AODA and other safety measures.
  • Works to complete the JHSC inspection deficiencies including tickets to the college
  • Coordinates First Aid Kit inventory checks on a scheduled basis.

What you Need in Education, Experience and Training for your Department:

  • 1-3years' experience in a role related to overseeing a guest facing environment (Hospitality setting is an asset)
  • Certified JHSC level 1 (level 2 would be an asset).
  • Experience mentoring young adults and/or working with volunteers
  • Experience working with community partners, institutional stakeholders and external vendors

Physical Demands/Work Environment

  • Standard work hours are 35 hours per week. Some evenings may be required based on the schedule of events and activities.
  • Fully licensed with vehicle as travel to other campuses may be required.
  • Able to work in a variety of event-related settings that will involve sitting, standing, lifting and transporting.
  • Able to stand for long periods of time.
