THE ROLE

STRIVE is working with a leading construction organization as they look to hire a Senior Accountant on an 18-month contract position. Our client is afast-growing company that is working on a number of high-profile real estate and civil development projects across the province.

The Senior Accountant will be responsible for full-cycle accounting, in particular preparing financial information in accordance with GAAP. The Senior Accountant will prepare and maintain accounting records, oversee project reporting, and support periodic financial closes and related financial reporting.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
  • Reconcile all bank accounts daily and prepare monthly bank account reconciliation reports.
  • Preparing bill payments, bank transactions, and preparing inter-bank transfers.
  • Responsible for cash flow monitoring and projection reports.
  • Prepare monthly and year-end working papers and ensure all Balance Sheet accounts are reconciled.
  • Analyze overhead accounts on a monthly basis to ensure accurate and timely reporting and forecasting.
  • Oversee the monthly Project Performance Report for the PM team and Management.
  • Oversee the monthly Project Cash Flow Report for the Senior and Executive Management.
  • Analyze and review all equipment-related activity including recoveries to projects, ownership costs, and operating costs (highlighting any concerns to the Equipment Manager), and follow up with resolutions.
  • Manage and administer renewals of equipment insurance.
  • Assist with payroll Ensuring compliance with all payroll laws and regulations.
  • Review and process government and union remittances.
  • Act as hourly payroll backup for Payroll Accountant.
  • Acts as an implementation lead in ongoing system enhancements.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ideally, a CPA-designated professional with a proven track record in finance, financial reporting, and analysis in a project-based environment.
  • Bachelors Degree in Accounting, Finance or related subjects.
  • Self-starter with strong abilities to research and problem-solve independently.
  • Advanced Excel skills are strongly desired - Pivot Tables, V LookUp.
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized with strong interpersonal skills.
  • An understanding of and experience in construction accounting and finance is preferred.
