DescriptionEquinox Engineering Ltd., a leading EPCM firm headquartered in Calgary, specializes in oil and gas processing, providing comprehensive services in facilities design, implementation, and operational support for natural gas, conventional, and heavy oil projects. Our clientele includes major oil and gas producers in Canada and globally, and we are actively engaged in diverse sweet gas, sour gas, conventional oil, heavy oil facility, and pipeline projects.
Key Responsibilities
  • Execute feasibility and conceptual design studies.
  • Execute process simulations and modeling of SAGD / Heavy Oil processing facilities and pipelines.
  • Develop and stamp key design documents (i.e. material balances, PFDs, P&IDs, shutdown keys, etc.).
  • Produce process calculations (i.e. line, equipment and PSV sizing, line hydraulics, etc.)
  • Preparation of equipment process data sheets.
  • Conduct P&ID / HAZOP reviews.
  • Generate control narratives.
  • Prepare start-up / operating manuals.
  • Provide support to junior process personnel

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • Must possess strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to prepare clear technical reports / documentation.
  • Heavy oil and SAGD facilities / pipeline experience required.
Broad exposure to SAGD / Heavy Oil design and construction related to:
  • SAGD well pads
  • Gathering / supporting pipeline systems
  • Central Processing Facilities (CPF)
Process design experience including:
  • Process mass balances
  • Process flow diagrams
  • Process calculations
  • Process support services
Systems design experience including:
  • Piping and instrument diagrams cause and effect diagrams
  • Hazard and operability design reviews
  • Systems support services
  • Proficiency with HYSYS and other related simulation software.
Education and Qualifications:
  • Successful candidate must be a current registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in the province of Alberta (Professional Engineering status in other justification is an asset).
  • Chemical Engineering or similarity related Engineering degree.
  • Minimum 5+ years oil and gas experience (preferably with an EPCM background).
  • Understanding of applicable Canadian Codes and Standards.
