The Opportunity

Join our dynamic team at Picton Mahoney Asset Management and become an integral part of our growth story as an Equity Trader. We are on the lookout for a talented individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment and possesses a passion for financial markets. As a key member of our trading team, you will play a vital role in managing our Canadian, U.S., and International equity portfolios. Your responsibilities will encompass not only executing trades but also providing crucial sector-specific analytical insights. Responsibilities of the Role

  • Execute equity/derivative/FX transactions for the firm globally.
  • Attentiveness towards best execution and counter party selection (both objectively and quantitatively).
  • Work closely with investment managers to continuously improve transactional efficiencies.
  • Develop sector specialization to provide investment team with analytical support.
  • Identify dealer driven investment ideas and disseminate to investment managers and analysts.
  • Continually communicate and exchange information with portfolio managers and analysts regarding market conditions and individual securities.
  • Work with back office and service providers to ensure smooth trade settlement.
  • Maintain relationships with broker/dealers, sales traders, and international program desks.
  • Generate and research investment ideas for the firm's various mandates.
  • Maintain flexible schedule due to international trading hours

The Qualifications and Experience Required

  • University degree in business, finance, or related field.
  • Completion of Canadian Securities Course and Traders Training Course are required.
  • CFA designation would be considered an asset.
  • At least 5+ years of experience working on a trade desk and with trading platforms.
  • Ability to excel under pressure (market volatility, time constraints) and execute swift decisions that may involve difficult trade-offs.
  • Flexibility to adapt and change to PMAM's evolving and growing needs within the trading team.
  • Results oriented with desire to achieve high levels of personal and organizational performance.
  • Possess excellent analysis, problem-solving skills, strong communication, keen attention to detail, and a keen desire for continuous learning.
  • Extensive knowledge of broker algorithms would be considered an asset.
  • Experience with trading sector specialization and knowledge of market microstructure considered an asset.
  • Experience with Bloomberg, Thomson One, Order Management Systems and Execution Management Systems is an asset.
  • Exposure to derivatives and FX would be considered an asset.
