Job Title: IT Support Technician

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Site IT Support Technician to join our IT team and oversee the day-to-day IT operations at our mine site in Northern British Columbia. Reporting to the Director of Information Technology, the successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining our site IT systems, providing technical support to users, and as part of the Skeena IT team, support the delivery of defined technology solutions to meet the evolving needs of the site.

Position Responsibilities: (Including but not limited to)

  • Act as primary Point of Contact on site for IT
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance to site-based users, ensuring timely resolution of IT issues.
  • Installation, configuration, and maintenance of endpoint, server and network infrastructure
  • Maintain security measures to protect against cyber threats and unauthorized access.
  • Monitor network performance and implement optimizations to ensure reliability and efficiency.
  • Develop and maintain documentation, including standard operating procedures, and system configurations.
  • Support fringe technologies such as VHF radio, structured data cabling, CCTV and physical security systems
  • Liaise and collaborate with IT team based in Vancouver, multiple IT vendors and partners.

The Ideal Candidate:

Qualifications / Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, a related field or demonstrable experience
  • Certifications in relevant IT disciplines, such as Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE).
  • Experience with wireless network architecture such as Point to Multi Point (PMP), Point to Point (PTP) and industrial Wi-Fi / mesh technology.
  • Experience working in the mining or natural resources industry, at remote sites, or industrial/constructions sites.
  • Familiarity with industrial technology, ruggedized equipment, and VHF/UHF radio systems.

Required Skills:

  • Several years of experience in IT support and infrastructure administration.
  • Proficiency in managing physical and virtual servers and network infrastructure.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic, remote site environment.
  • Commitment to safety and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Valid Class 5 driving license.

Working Conditions:

This is a site-based camp job at Eskay Creek Mine site. This position involves working at a remote mine site on a 15 days on/13 days off rotation. Additionally, the job is in a fast-paced working environment, with having to manage multiple competing priorities.

The Eskay Creek Revitalization Project is located within the Coast Mountains of Northwestern British Columbia and Tahltan Territory. Ground transportation will be provided from local communities to the Eskay Creek Site facilities. For those applicants located elsewhere in western Canada, flight transportation from major urban centers will be provided to the Terrace Airport, from which shuttles will provide transportation to the Eskay Creek Camp facilities. Travel time and expenses are subject to Skeena's Travel Policy.

There will be exposure to extreme temperatures in all seasons including working outdoors in snow, mud, ice, and water conditions, walking to and from different locations on uneven ground, prolonged periods of standing and physically handling/lifting/moving heavy objects.
