About the Job
The Engineering Manager (EM) is a leadership and management role within R&D, tasked with building and maintaining high-performing engineering teams. An EM is a frontline manager for the organization's engineers and can expect to have between 10 - 14 direct reports, on average, spread across 2 development teams. In addition to managing people, the EM is also expected to drive processes for their teams, stay up to date and informed on our technologies, and will be measured on value delivered by their teams.
Your Impact
As an Engineering Manager you will:
- Manage performance through weekly 1:1s, providing timely feedback, setting clear goals and expectations, communicating effectively, and holding team members accountable.
- Build strong teams and support and your team members' career growth, leveraging Vendasta's employee development tools to create collaborative growth plans, facilitate developmental opportunities, and ensure each team member feels supported in their career growth.
- Refine and drive critical processes to ensure efficiency and effectiveness and operate as a Scrum coach for your teams.
- In collaboration with the Talent Partner, build high-performing teams by hiring the right people and ensuring teams are adequately staffed to deliver on organizational priorities.
- Understand and measure on the metrics most important ensure your teams' organizational impact, and manage upward to Senior Leadership, where necessary.
What You Bring to the Table
- 3+ years experience managing agile software teams, ideally managing between 6 and 10 developers across multiple teams
- 5+ years experience as a software developer
- Bachelor's degree in software engineering or computer science considered an asset
- Experience or strong understanding with high scalability, data-intensive, distributed Internet applications
- Ability to generate support for a company/team decision to help drive objectives
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present complex technical information clearly and concisely to a variety of audiences
- Bias for action, while dealing well with ambiguity
