Nature & Scope → Your Role at Roots

The General Accountant/Treasury is a key member of the Finance team at Roots, reporting to the Treasury Manager. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting, managing daily cash flow, and executing month-end close activities. With a focus on process efficiency, compliance, and data accuracy, the position contributes to the overall financial integrity of the organization. This position is suited for a detail-oriented finance professional with a strong analytical mindset and a commitment to continuous improvement in a dynamic, fast-paced retail environment.

Key Responsibilities → How You’ll Make an Impact

• Prepare various month end journals consisting of accruals and prepaids
• Prepare month end schedules, working papers and reports
• Perform AR closing on Momentis
• Perform balance sheet reconciliations for key accounts, including proper support and investigation of discrepancies
• Reconcile general ledger to sub ledger monthly (AR, AP, Prepaids)
• Royalty Reconciliation and accruals
• Upload various journals from other members of the finance department
• Review and analyze expense accounts and resolve discrepancies to ensure accurate and complete reporting
• Manage all changes to vendor master file
• Monthly commodity tax filing and reporting (Canada and US)
• Daily cash flow management
• Preparation of EFT, Wires and Bill Payments
• Assist in the automation of store deposit reconciliations

Qualifications & Experience → The Skills You Bring

• A post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, Business Administration, Economics or equivalent
• Accounting designation (CPA or equivalent) or working towards a designation is preferred
• 3+ years of full cycle accounting experience
• Distribution experience/retail experience
• High proficiency in Excel (Pivot Tables/VLOOKUP’s)
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
