As the Operational Systems Technologist, you will be responsible for supporting operationally focused technology solutions and working with frontline and office employees to efficiently use the solutions to meet operational goals. Your work will be end user focused regarding the use of technology solutions from supporting the employee use of the solution, supporting hardware management, and data analysis for reports or dashboards on operational activities. Primary duties include:
- Provide user support as the first point of contact for enquiries from internal (field and office based) customers related to operational systems and technologies.
- Deliver training on technology solutions, support employee onboarding, engage with staff, and facilitate change management to ensure operational areas understand and utilize accepted systems/technologies to optimize their business operations.
- Develop user queries, reports, and dashboards.
- Maintain standards related to field data records and ensure consistency across all operational districts.
- Support management and changes to hardware device inventories required for operations.
- Represent as a subject matter expert on the operational use of software and hardware technology solutions (examples include smart truck technology, asset management systems, or customer management systems).
- Conduct research into new technologies, support assessment of changing technology needs relation to suitability for operational business needs, and onboard new technology solutions.
Qualifications
- A completed 2 year diploma in Information Technology, Computer Science, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Applied Sciences, Engineering or a related field with at least 3 years of experience in areas such as providing technical knowledge in an operational focused environment.
- Experience in the waste industry is an asset.
- You have the ability to work both independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
- You have excellent communication skills with a strong customer service focus.
- Success in this role requires good problem solving, judgement and decision-making skills.

This position may be eligible to work from home for at least part of the time as one of several flexible work options available to City employees. These arrangements depend on the operational requirements of the role, employee suitability, and are subject to change based on operational needs and corporate direction.
