Join a team that helps shape and maintain the physical security framework supporting OPP operations. As a Security Specialist, you will provide specialized expertise in the design, implementation, and maintenance of security solutions that protect personnel, facilities, firearms storage locations, and other sensitive assets.
This role will be based out of 777 Memorial Avenue, Orillia, however, the successful candidate will be required to travel throughout the Province to sites, addressing security needs in-person.
About Us:
The Facilities Section supports the maintenance and development of new and existing OPP facilities. The Section helps to ensure that the organization's challenging and complex infrastructure requirements are met in a way which best serve effective service delivery. Our team supports lease management, long and short term accommodations, coordination of maintenance issues, as well as other infrastructure related issues for more than 500 facilities in the OPP's portfolio.

About the jobLeveraging your knowledge of advanced locking systems, electronic access control technologies, and security risk mitigation strategies, you will:
• Conduct Physical Security Assessments (PSA) in order to make recommendations in the protection of people, information, buildings, residences.
• Identify both external and internal threats to OPP assets and external stakeholders.
• Anticipate security requirements, solve complex technical issues, and communicate effectively with clients and management.
• Ensure secure and efficient operations across OPP facilities. What you bring to the team
Mandatory requirements• Ability to pass an OPP background/ security investigation.
• You have a valid Class G Ontario Drivers License.
• You must be able to travel throughout the Province of Ontario.
Security Technology and Access Control Systems• Knowledge typically acquired through advanced professional security training, certification programs, such as American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS) board certification.
• Demonstrated knowledge of modern electronic security systems, including access control, intrusion detection, video surveillance, and security monitoring technologies.
• Ability to support the planning, design, implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of technology-enabled security solutions.
• Knowledge of networked security environments, including telecommunications, wireless technologies, and system integration concepts.
• Ability to assess emerging security technologies and adapt to technological advancements to support organizational security objectives.
Physical Security, Facility Protection and Risk Mitigation• Knowledge of physical security principles, site security management, facility assessments, and high-security hardware systems.
• Experience conducting security reviews, threat and risk assessments, and developing recommendations to mitigate security vulnerabilities.
• Understanding of Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED), insider threat mitigation, and technical security principles.
• Knowledge of security standards, policies, and best practices related to the protection of people, facilities, information, and assets.
Technical Analysis, Design and Problem Solving• Ability to analyze architectural drawings, technical specifications, security requirements, and applicable standards to develop effective security solutions.
• Experience identifying, investigating, and resolving complex security issues through practical and technology-based approaches.
• Strong analytical and evaluative skills to assess risks, determine impacts, and provide evidence-based recommendations.
• Ability to interpret legislative, regulatory, and organizational requirements and apply them to security system design and operations.
Communication, Consultation and Stakeholder Relationships• Ability to provide specialized advice, guidance, and recommendations to stakeholders on security-related matters.
• Strong interpersonal skills to build effective relationships and collaborate with internal and external partners.
• Effective written communication skills to prepare reports, technical documentation, policies, procedures, and briefing materials.
• Ability to present complex security information clearly to diverse audiences, including senior management.
Continuous Learning and Professional Expertise• Commitment to maintaining subject matter expertise in physical and electronic security through ongoing research, training, and professional development.
• Ability to remain current with evolving security technologies, industry trends, and emerging threats.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and specialized security software applications.
• Ability to interpret and apply workplace policies, including Respectful Workplace and Workplace Violence Prevention principles.
