Key Responsibilities
As a Drywall Taper, your day-to-day tasks will include:
- Applying successive coats of compound and sanding seams and joints to achieve a smooth finish.
- Cutting and installing metal corner beads to protect exterior corners.
- Filling joints, nail indentations, holes, and cracks with joint compound using a trowel and broad knife.
- Measuring, cutting, fitting, and installing drywall sheets with precision.
- Positioning and securing sheets to metal or wooden studs or joists.
- Smoothing out excess compound and allowing coats to dry properly.
- Taping over joints using a taping machine and embedding tape in compound.
- Cutting openings in lath for heating and ventilation piping, ducts, and electrical outlets.
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A secondary (high) school graduation certificate.
- Experience ranging from 7 months to less than 1 year in drywall tapering or a related field.
Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities
