What You'll Do

As a Drywall Installer, you will play a crucial role in transforming spaces. Your responsibilities will include:

• Reading blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine work requirements
• Preparing tenders and quotations
• Instructing apprentices and supervising other workers
• Applying successive coats of compound and sanding seams and joints
• Applying, leveling, and smoothing coats of plaster
• Cleaning and preparing surfaces for installation
• Curing freshly plastered surfaces
• Cutting and installing metal corner beads to protect exterior corners
• Fabricating and installing suspended metal ceiling grids and placing panels to form acoustical and coffered ceilings
• Filling joints, nail indentations, holes, and cracks with joint compound using a trowel and broad knife
• Finishing corners and angles and creating decorative designs in the finish coat, if required
• Measuring, cutting, fitting, and installing drywall sheets
• Moulding and installing ornamental plaster panels, cornices, and trim
• Positioning and securing sheets to metal or wooden studs or joists
• Smoothing out excess compound and allowing coats to dry
• Taping over joints using a taping machine and embedding tape in compound
• Installing exterior and interior steel studs
• Preparing wall and ceiling layouts
• Estimating costs and materials
