As our Lawyer, you will:
  • Structure, review and negotiate a broad range of agreements such as media, entertainment, and intellectual property transactions including development, production, finance, talent, distribution, licensing, endorsements, strategic ventures and collaborations.
  • Work with clients spanning from start-ups to well-known international brands and established creators, influencers, producers, distributors, and entertainment businesses.
  • Provide business-oriented and practical legal advice on a wide range of topics, including commercial contracts (with a focus on media and television production), copyright, licensing, trademarks, and tax law.
  • Negotiate and conclude commercial contracts with customers, partners, and vendors.
  • Work on diverse items such as content production, licensing and merchandising, intellectual property, digital media, interactive experiences, influencer and sponsorship deals and traditional entertainment.
  • Work closely with our creative, marketing, production, and finance departments.
Qualifications:
  • Licensed to practice law in Canada, preferably in Alberta.
  • 3+ years’ experience in corporate commercial, copyright, licensing, trademarks, tax law, IP and/or entertainment law (television, film, and digital industries).
  • Experience closing loan and financing transactions.
  • Demonstrated experience drafting, reviewing and negotiating contracts and agreements Attention to detail and solutions focused approach.
  • Well-versed in contract, copyright and trademark law, talent agreements, rights acquisitions, licensing, and distribution deals.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills - you can explain legal and business issues to non-lawyers.
  • Corporate experience is a bonus.
  • Multi company experience an asset.
