DATA SCIENTIST Reports To: Director, Systems Business UnitDepartment: Systems Business Unit (SBU)Location: Dartmouth, NSJob Type: Full-Time Permanent Work Schedule: On-site full-time or Hybrid SUMMARY: To expand our team in Dartmouth, NS, we are seeking a candidate with a strong background in machine learning and acoustic signal processing. The ideal candidate will have experience working with high-throughput, multi-channel sensor data and developing models that are both accurate and computationally efficient. RESPONSIBILITIES:· Develop machine learning products and models from inception to production.· Build and deploy scalable, production-grade AI-driven applications leveraging state-of-the-art ML architectures.· Meticulously evaluate the performance of AI/ML to understand, report, and resolve limitations of their application.· Implement and optimise conventional acoustic signal processing pipelines for preprocessing.· Build and maintain data management and visualization applications.· Collaborate with cross functional teams of scientists, engineers, and management in providing business-oriented solutions.· Proactively identify opportunities of improvement and contribute creative solutions to enhance efficiency and effectiveness at the workplace.· Continuously follow current developments in the field of ML/AI and update and expand your knowledge.
QUALIFICATIONS:· Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science or related field of science or engineering.· >2yrs hands-on experience in data science, signal processing and neural network development.· Strong understanding of digital signal processing (DSP), especially in the context of acoustic or time-series data.· Proven experience in developing and deploying machine learning models for real-time signal or sensor data processing.· Familiarity with model optimization techniques, especially for constrained environments.· Proficiency in Python for DSP and ML model development (numpy, scipy, librosa, scikit-learn, pytorch, tensorflow, keras); proficiency in C/C++ is an asset.· Experience with embedded systems or edge computing platforms (e.g., NVIDIA Jetson, ARM-based SoCs, FPGAs).· Solid understanding of classification and anomaly detection algorithms.· Experience with data annotation, model training pipelines, and evaluation metrics for detection and classification tasks.· Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.· Background in underwater acoustics, sonar, or related marine technology.· Experience with real-time data streaming frameworks and low-latency processing pipelines.· Experience with computer vision and feature recognition algorithms.· Familiarity with containerization (e.g., Docker) and deployment tools, including AWS services for edge or cloud deployment.· Experience collaborating in interdisciplinary teams spanning hardware, software, and domain-specific expertise.
