MISSION

The Designer, Store Design, is responsible for developing all aspects of design for the Indigo retail environment. The primary focus will be on creating concepts that align with Indigo's brand and business goals to enhance the Customer Experience.

KEY PERFORMANCE METRICS

  • Completion of new store projects on time, on budget, and within scope
  • Elevation of store design and experience (both for customers and employees)
  • Customer satisfaction, as evidenced by stakeholder feedback

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Functional

  • Support the development of new store designs and assist with managing concept and millwork development drawings.
  • Collaborates closely with both the Creative Lead & Team Lead, Store Design
  • Working closely with cross-functional departments on projects as applicable
  • Working closely with architects, consultants (Architects of Record, MEP engineers, Structural engineers, Lighting Designers), fabricators and suppliers
  • Contributes to design solutions that achieve merchandising goals outlined in the design brief
  • Responsible for the execution of team deliverables
  • Produce CAD fixture floorplans for large and small format projects
  • Produce CAD & 3D renderings where necessary to illustrate the effectiveness of new designs, plans and fixtures
  • Support the design and roll-out of fixtures
  • Understand and apply Indigo's Store Design standards to store projects
  • Responsible for maintaining and updating the database of the current fixture floorplans, fixture drawings, and photographs of all stores
  • Responsible for sourcing samples from suppliers and maintaining the materials library.
  • Take on special projects assigned by senior team members
  • Embrace and seek out solutions that support the omni-channel, online / in-store integrated customer experience
  • Ensure the store experience is best-in-class, acting as an advocate for the customer and employee by placing them at the forefront of all design and decision-making processes

SCOPE

Qualifications

Work Experience / Education / Certifications

  • Minimum 3-5 years of professional experience in commercial interior design in retail, hospitality, or equivalent
  • Degree or Diploma in Interior Design, Architecture, Architectural Technology, Industrial Design or equivalent
  • LEED & WELL accreditation, knowledge and project experience are an asset
  • Member of ARIDO (Association of Registered Interior Designers of Ontario), OAA (Ontario Association of Architects) or equivalent is an asset
  • Experienced in the design and execution of commercial environments
  • Experienced in working closely with architects and various consultants (design agencies, MEP engineers, structural engineers, lighting designers) in the execution of commercial projects
  • Experienced in working with construction and know construction administration
  • Knowledge of and experience in preparing and reviewing construction drawings and construction details
  • Knowledge of and experience with fabrication methods inherent in store fixtures, architecture, and furniture production
  • Retail experience is an asset

  • Expert in CAD and 3D rendering skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite and Sketch-Up
  • Understanding of proportion and scale to translate ideas, forms, and functions into cohesive design concepts
  • Excellent ability to create, understand, and translate three-dimensional space concepts into conceptual drawings
  • Organized and analytical, with keen attention to detail
  • Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision
  • Committed to growing skills and continuous improvement
  • Able to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, frequently changing environment
  • Interested in human-centred, empathetic design that puts the well-being and experience of people first
  • Dedicated to learning and searching out new points of view in design
  • Open to listening, accepting feedback, and exploring opportunities based on feedback on design work
  • Clear and professional communicator, written and verbal
  • Have a good understanding of the building codes and barrier-free design

  • Occasional travel to store locations
  • Occasional travel locally and/or out of province
  • Licensed to drive preferred
  • Bilingual is an asset
  • Professional portfolio required
