WHAT'S THE JOB?

The Laundry Supervisor to oversee laundry operations at a remote camp in Nunavut, Canada. This is a leadership role that involves supervising a team of 5 direct reports, providing training on stain treatment, and managing the operation of laundry machines. The Laundry Supervisor will also be responsible for inventory control and ensuring high standards of cleanliness and efficiency in a remote environment.

The position involves a remote work lifestyle in a camp setting with the following amenities:

  • All meals and accommodations are provided
  • Travel is provided to and from the site location from Edmonton, AB
  • Private room with cable television
  • Access to Wi-Fi
  • Access to laundry facilities and detergents
  • Access to a gym and common areas

Working Conditions:

  • Remote camp environment with extended periods away from home (3 weeks on/3 weeks off)
  • Cabin/arctic tent accommodations with shared washroom facilities
  • Extreme weather conditions are common in Nunavut
  • Extended periods of darkness/no sunshine this time of year

Key responsibilities include:

  • Team Leadership & Training: Supervise and lead a team of 5 laundry staff members. Provide hands-on training in stain treatment techniques, machine operation, and best practices to ensure high-quality laundry services.
  • Stain Treatment Management: Take the lead in identifying and treating stains on various fabrics. Train team members on appropriate stain removal techniques and maintain records of treated items.
  • Hands-On Laundry Operations: Actively engage in laundry tasks such as washing, drying, folding, and distributing linens, uniforms, and personal items, ensuring all items meet established quality standards.
  • Laundry Equipment Management: Oversee the operation and maintenance of all laundry equipment, ensuring staff are trained in safe and efficient usage. Ensure routine maintenance is performed to minimize downtime.
  • Inventory Control: Manage laundry supplies, including detergents, chemicals, linens, and other materials. Monitor stock levels, place orders as needed and ensure proper storage and handling of supplies.
  • Health & Safety Compliance: Enforce safety protocols for chemical handling, equipment usage, and general laundry operations. Ensure adherence to environmental and safety regulations.
  • Scheduling & Workflow Management: Develop and implement effective work schedules for the laundry team, ensuring all tasks are completed in a timely manner and meeting the needs of the camp.
  • Quality Control: Regularly inspect laundry items to ensure they meet cleanliness, stain removal, and quality standards.
  • Problem Resolution: Address and resolve any laundry-related issues or concerns from camp staff in a timely and professional manner.
  • Reporting: Maintain accurate records of laundry operations, including inventory, equipment maintenance, and team performance. Provide regular updates to management.

Qualifications

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

  • Proven experience in laundry operations, with at least 2 years of supervisory experience preferred.
  • Hands-on experience in stain treatment and knowledge of laundry machine operation and maintenance.
  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to train, motivate, and manage a small team (5 direct reports).
  • Experience in inventory management, including ordering and maintaining stock levels.
  • Ability to work effectively in a remote and isolated environment, with limited access to outside resources.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Comfort and adaptability in living and working in harsh northern climates, with the ability to be away from family for extended periods (3 weeks on, 3 weeks off).
  • Physical capability to perform manual labor, including lifting and standing for long periods.
  • Valid First Aid/CPR certification (an asset).
  • Strong commitment to safety, cleanliness, and quality standards.

Work schedule and remuneration:

Laundry Supervisors work on a rotational schedule of 4 weeks on/2 weeks off. Site location is in a remote camp setting, with individual cabin/arctic tent accommodations. You may be required to work nights, weekdays, weekends, and general holidays. Wages are paid on an hourly basis with a starting rate of $20.50/hour
