Host daily story meetings to discuss, plan and assign stories that will hook local readers.
- Review and edit stories with an eye for clarity and reader engagement.
- Optimize stories for a digital-only audience, including SEO.
- Curate website and newsletter content with an ability to recognize best placement based on significance, timeliness and reader engagement.
- Offer feedback and coach reporters to enhance digital storytelling abilities.
- Mine social media, including Reddit, X, Bluesky, Instagram, Facebook and more, for story ideas and what's trending in the local coverage area.
- Keep on top of Google Trends, internal analytics and other tools to identify topics for coverage that will resonate with readers and drive page views.
Salary Range: $53,445.08 to $63,402.56

Qualifications
- You have a diploma or degree in journalism or in a related field.
- You're a team player with 5 years of professional experience as an editor.
- You're an organizational whiz with a need to manage assignments, projects and deadlines with the latest tools.
- Your impressive project and time-management skills allow you to thrive in a fast-paced, sometimes chaotic yet very creative environment.
- You can manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously, and shift gears quickly, when needed thanks to your reliance on organizational tools.
- You have excellent news judgement, an innate ability to identify topics for coverage, exceptional writing and storytelling skills, and think beyond traditional narratives to support journalists in producing compelling and relevant stories.
- You can convert data to action items that utilize resources effectively and efficiently.
- You 'get' social media and know how to use different platforms to source and share information.
- You understand the importance of SEO and online best practices, and use these to reach a wider audience.
- You craft a mean headline sure to catch the eye of readers.
- You are well-versed in Canadian libel law and have a strong grasp of Canadian Press style.
