JOB DESCRIPTION
The JDI Tax Team is a dedicated group of professionals responsible for providing Canadian and US tax services and advice to the diverse businesses that make up the J.D. Irving, Limited group of companies. It is a unique team that takes great pride in its work product and offers candidates a real opportunity to learn and grow.
We are seeking qualified candidates to join our Indirect Tax team in Saint John, New Brunswick in the role of Indirect Tax Analyst. The Indirect Tax Analyst needs to be detail-oriented, results-driven and willing to ask questions. We are looking for a self-starter who wants to learn from other team members and grow their tax knowledge.
RESPONSIBILITIES
This position would relate primarily to indirect tax compliance in Canada and the US and would involve working with the other members of the Indirect Tax team to:
- Prepare and file Canadian indirect tax compliance, including GST/HST, QST, PST, and IFTA.
- Prepare and file US indirect tax compliance, including Sales Tax and Highway Use Tax returns.
- Prepare and file VAT returns and Green Fund levy for Trinidad and Tobago
- Research and analyze tax issues.
- Draft technical tax memos and other tax-related documents.
- Provide assistance in responding to audits from tax authorities.
- Build and strengthen relationships with our clients and the other departments within J.D. Irving, Limited.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Strong problem-solving abilities, with a sense of urgency and high attention to detail.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- A university or college degree in a relevant business field.
- 3+ years of experience in Canadian or US indirect tax compliance and/or audits.
- Completion of the In-Depth GST/HST program would be an asset.
