JOB DESCRIPTION
Responsible for all activities involved in maintaining the cleanliness and food safe environment of the processing facility, surrounding area and equipment. Work shall be performed both indoors and outdoors; in a food processing plant with a high noise level, storage coolers/facilities and in an office environment. Position requires working around processing plant equipment. Must be physically capable of working extended hours and alternate hours from schedule (as needed) in a wet and/or cold environment, working outdoors, standing for long periods of time, and operating processing equipment.
RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure the plant meets Irving Standards (interior/exterior premises plant sanitation)
  • Daily inspecting and maintaining of equipment.
  • Open communication with peers and support groups (upstream/downstream, process engineers, mechanics, technicians, QA, etc.)
  • Update daily management boards and documents.
  • Follow all practices, policies, procedures, and manufacture specifications.
  • Regular deep sanitation of equipment and area
  • Relieve other Plant Sanitation workers for breaks, vacation, and sickness.
  • Must be able to work alone or in a group setting for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to complete tasks in established time frame.
  • Must have good attention to detail.
  • Develops new methods, procedures, and systems to improve quality and food safety performance, and implement corrective actions.
  • Read, understand, and create WHIMIS and chemical labels.
  • Effectively organize and prioritize assigned work for the day around the business needs.
  • Mechanically inclined, must be able to perform minor repairs to sanitation equipment plant wide.
  • All other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to identify potential hazards
  • Thorough understanding on customer expectations and requirements
  • Ability to meet Irving Standards
  • Familiar with OHS Act Regulations Code
  • Chemical use and safety as per instruction
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Understanding of our Emergency Response procedure
  • Able and willing to work 8 hours, Monday to Friday
  • Ability to follow Lock Out Tag Out Procedures
  • Versed in fall protection
  • Previous sanitation experiences an asset
  • Use of powered pallet jack
  • Ability to work at heights for extended periods
  • Ability to stand/walk for 8-12 hours
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs
  • Ability to work with computers (MS Office & SPC)
  • Must have a basic understanding of inventory methods
  • Complete necessary paperwork daily, weekly, monthly
  • Clean equipment with the use of the pressure washer, foaming system, and floor scrubbers
  • Must be able to follow all sanitation standard operating procedures
  • Display good work habits and resourcefulness as required by the organization
  • Understand Operating Instructions and Inspection Requirements
  • Ensure quality control and efficient workflow
