Job Description:
This is a 6-month student internship position. The Successful candidate will assist BBEMA Habitat Enhancement Coordinator to undertake biological monitoring protocols: and implement ecological enhancement protocols to enrich agricultural habitats for native wildlife. .
– Conduct field monitoring protocols: organizing and implementing field studies to analyze and monitor wildlife
– Enhance ecological habitats within the Bedeque Bay Watershed for both aquatic and terrestrial wildlife.
– Collect and analyze fresh/saltwater water samples, macro-invertebrate population samples, deployment/collection of in-situ probes, use of field collection unit (YSI Pro Plus) and lab photometer.
– Assist with transect health/population assessment, done mapping and blue carbon sampling within eel grass meadow sites in Summerside Harbor.
– Conduct Atlantic Salmon habitat/spawning site targeted enhancement initiative, plus general in stream species fish habitat enhancement protocols.
– Conduct Monarch Watch program protocols – inclusive of Monarch butterfly raising, tagging/release protocols, pollinator site monitoring, habitat enhancement, education, and outreach programs.
– Implement pollinator habitat assessment and enhancement protocols on agricultural and urban landscapes inclusive: Swamp milkweed propagation, pollinator mix planting, care transplanting of wetland ground plants.
– Undertake native tree and shrub planting within agricultural landscapes.
– Assist with BBEMA Newcomers to Canada Climate Change Awareness Program and Youth Science Nature Camp workshops and field trip activities.
– Assist with delivery of BBEMA Youth Environmental Programs: (Yellow Fish Road, Adopt-a-River, Adopt-a-Pond,) student in class/lab sessions and on-site field trips.
– Office work will involve online database entry, analyzing and interpreting data, and writing scientific reports.
