Under the direction of Chef Michael Smith and Chastity Smith, we offer a five-star inn and dining room seating up to 86 guests at our nightly FireWorks Feast from May to October.   • Job Location: Fortune, Prince Edward Island
  • Work Conditions: Outdoor bar and culinary venue, busy restaurant environment, banquet-style service.
  • Work Term: Full-time seasonal (May-October)
  • Schedule: Afternoon to evening shifts, 5 days per week, approximately 40 hours per week, with paid breaks.
  • Starting Salary: $28.25 per hour, or based on experience. Hospitality is included within the wage, as we do not accept tips from guests.
  • Health Benefits: 50% employer paid; Life Insurance, Health Insurance, Extended Health Insurance, Dental & Vision Care, available after your first season of employment.
  • Other Benefits: 4% vacation pay. Complimentary staff meals every afternoon during your working hours. Compensation for the purchase of non-slip shoes, which are a requirement of the job, up to $50.00 every two years.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Restaurant Manager and Service Supervisors, you will:

  1. Set up the bar at the beginning of the shift and close/restock the bar at the end of the night.
  2. Bartend for the guests before, during, and/or after dinner service in 1-2-hour periods.
  3. Prepare cocktail and mocktail pairings for dinner service.
  4. Promote drink sales and encourage guests to spend time at the bar.
  5. Act and communicate with staff and guests in keeping with The Inn at Bay Fortune's five-star hospitality expectations.
  6. Track guests' tabs for billing and cashout purposes after service.
  7. Assist the Servers with dinner service as required.
  8. Ensure the bar remains compliant with provincial liquor and food safety regulations.

Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Responsible Beverage Server certification.
  • Formal education in wine and/or spirits (such as WSET or IWEG) is an asset.

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of restaurant experience as a host, server, or bartender.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience bartending.
  • Experience working at one of Canada's Top 100 Best Restaurants is an asset.
  • On-the-job training will be provided.

Skills/Success Factors

  1. Excellent communication and hospitality skills; comfortable upselling drink menus and communicates with supervisor when in need of assistance.
  2. Strong understanding of classic cocktails and the ability to mix drinks.
  3. Understanding of local food safety and hygiene regulations and guidelines.
  4. Understanding of local liquor laws and the ability to enforce them.
  5. Punctual; communicates appropriately with supervisor if absent or arriving late for a shift.
  6. Displays a friendly demeanour and a team player attitude.
  7. Strong organizational capabilities, time management skills, and attention to detail; must be self-motivated and demonstrate an eagerness to learn and to work hard.
  8. Adaptable to respond to changes in the weather, service programming, and the guests' needs.
  9. Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  10. Comfortable working at outdoor bar establishments.
