Job Title: Vacation planner

Reports to: Executive Director

Job Purpose

The role of a Vacation Planner is to serve as a tourism ambassador to Prince Edward Island working with the Island's tourism industry and visitors/potential visitors to maximize the economic benefit of tourism to the community and province through the visitor information center and Destination Centre.

Major Accountabilities

• Greeting all visitors to the Visitor Information Centre (VIC) and Destination Centre in a friendly, enthusiastic and professional manner;
• Answering telephone calls, local VIC and toll-free.
• Responding to visitor and industry email, and chat inquiries.
• Keeping the VIC clean, tidy and organized;
• Responding to visitor inquiries;
• Reviewing publications for upcoming events and news of interest to visitors;
• Researching community information of interest to visitors;
• Updating files and reference materials;
• Maintaining and updating various databases and spreadsheets;
• Keeping literature racks well-stocked and organized;
• Posting current information of interest to visitors such as tourism alerts, road reports, weather reports, festivals and events, and tides;
• Discovering the interests of the visitor;
• Promoting tourist establishments and events to meet visitors' needs;
• Planning itineraries in response to visitor inquiries;
• Seeking out accommodations and making reservations as requested by the visitor
• Facilitating provincial parks reservations through personal requests as well as the PEI Parks toll-free number
• Encouraging a longer stay on the Island and return visits;
• Recording hourly visitor statistics;
• Other duties as required

Qualifications

• Grade 12 or GED equivalent

• Basic computer skills, including email, web and word processing
• Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills;
• Ability to work well under pressure, multi-task and demonstrate initiative;
• Strong knowledge of the local area and tourism opportunities in the region.
• Enjoy working with the public.
• Must be able to work a variety of shifts, days, evenings, weekends

Skills and Knowledge:

• Excellent organizational skills.
• Excellent customer service skills
• Good communication skills, oral and written.
• Ability to work under pressure and work as a team player
• Knowledge of PEI's diverse tourism products and
• Customer service and sales-related training
• Bilingualism would be considered an asset.
