Job Description:

Environmental Field Technicians will work with a team of environmental stewards to enhance and protect the watersheds of Kensington North and the species that inhabit them through research, education, and monitoring. This position assists in environmental conservation projects under the guidance of a supervisor involving outdoor work, carrying out tasks like stream enhancement, wildlife/ habitat monitoring, tree planting, beach clean-ups, and invasive-species management. Possible participation in community events and agriculture-related projects as well. This position is available for an 8-week term.

Responsibilities

• Assist in habitat enhancement or monitoring activities such as native tree/shrub planting, stream restoration work, and wildlife surveys (bird banding, electrofishing, acoustic monitoring, wildlife cameras, etc.).
• Assist in various environmental surveys and record accurate data and observations (e.g. wildlife signs, pollution, plant species, fish passage barriers, etc.).
• Collect and analyze water quality data using handheld YSI and photometer

Skills/Requirments

• Applicant should have a background or keen interest in biology, wildlife conservation, environmental science, agriculture, or a related field.
• Comfortable working in and around water, ability to lift heavy objects, and endurance to stand and walk for long periods of time.
• Able to work under potentially adverse outdoor conditions, including in heat, cold, rain, and biting insects.
• Comfortable working with hand tools such as saws or axes
• Good analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
• Reliable and able to follow instructions.
• Transportation to work sites within the Kensington North area (qualifying mileage will be paid)
