About Our Opportunity

In this position in our Yarmouth Contact Centre, you interact with customers by phone, answering enquiries and questions, troubleshooting problems, and providing information. You provide effective customer service while responding to incoming enquiries regarding programs and services provided by Service Nova Scotia.

You provide direction, information and assistance to the public, internal customers, and other government departments through the detailed explanation of the procedures, policies and legislative requirements of programs administered by the department.

As a Summer Student, you will gain practical administrative experience and receive training and mentorship from highly qualified public service professionals. This is the perfect opportunity to jump start your career and gain an understanding of the provincial government.

About You

To be considered for this summer student opportunity, you are currently a full-time University or Community College student entering or returning to study in the fall or next applicable semester. Customer service industry experience is required. In addition, you demonstrate:

  • Strong organizational skills;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Problem solving skills;
  • Team player skills, with the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment;
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment;
  • Strong keyboarding and computer skills (Word, Internet and Email).

Data entry skills, cash handling experience and bilingual ability in French and English would be viewed as assets.

Proof of educational enrollment may be required.

Working Conditions
  • Normal work week is 35 hours/week, 7 hours/day paid, working 8-4 with 2-15 minute breaks and ½ hour for lunch.
  • Located in a comfortable office environment.
  • Regularly reads and interprets multiple sources of information, regular requirement to type, read and work on a computer.
  • May experience pressure with deadlines and need for accuracy.

Pay Grade: HOURLY

Salary Range: $17.86 - $29.11 Hourly
