The Opportunity:

Summer Day Camps are rich in the history of the YMCA of Southwestern New Brunswick. Located East Saint John, the Irving Oil Field House offers sport day camp in a state of the art facility unlike any other location in Atlantic Canada. The facility is made up of two turf fields, a 6-lane 200 meter track, fitness center, child care, community kitchen, multipurpose rooms, and much more

Responsibilities:

  • Work with the partner sports organizations to deliver daily sports activities and games.
  • Dedicated to the positive development of children and youth and appreciate the mission of the YMCA of Southwestern New Brunswick.
  • Supervise a group of up to 15 children, ages 5-16 years, and provide strong and positive leadership.
  • Plan, organize, and deliver daily activities for camps.
  • Able to provide leadership specific to the various Day Camp activities to all campers.
  • Confident, mature, enthusiastic, and ready to perform in a fast-paced environment.
  • Understands and complies with the New Brunswick Child Care facilities standards, Child Protection Practices.
  • Plans and implements a consistent participant-focused approach in the development of new skills in a fun and safe manner in accordance with YMCA and New Brunswick standards.
  • Maintains constant surveillance of campers
  • Ensure all safety and child protection procedures are adhered to.
  • Acts immediately and appropriately to secure the safety of patrons in the event of an emergency.
  • Provides emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Ongoing or completed post-secondary education
  • Has sport specific experience
  • Previous experience in a Day Camp or Youth Program setting.
  • Flexibility regarding assigned working hours, site locations.
  • Strong work ethic and excellent organizational skills.
  • An excellent team player able to share cooperative leadership with other staff.
  • Strong communication, customer service skills, a team player.
  • Social Development Clearance Check.
  • First Aid/CPR certification is considered an asset.
