About Our Opportunity

As the Junior Aquaculture Administration Officer, you will gain practical administrative and operational experience and receive training and mentorship from highly qualified public service professionals. This is the perfect opportunity to start your career and gain an understanding of the provincial government.

You will assist staff with a range of duties, which support the administration of the Aquaculture Division and contribute to the overall mandate of Fisheries and Aquaculture by:

  • Inputting and analyzing data
  • Maintaining and updating files and records
  • Organizing, filing, and preparing documents
  • Providing assistance to the sections of the Division such as Licensing and Leasing, Operations, Development and Aquatic Animal Health


You will work with our Aquaculture Division to support the sustainable development of our province's aquaculture sector. In your role with our team, you will play a part in the development of the aquaculture and marine plants sector by supporting the delivery of our regulatory programs through information and statistical analysis. More specifically, you'll work closely with the Aquaculture Licensing and Leasing Division which is responsible for administering aquaculture licenses and leases, collection of annual statistics and records management. You'll have the opportunity to visit aquaculture operations, learn about the aquaculture site review and approval process and visit the Department's office and lab facilities across the province.

There will be opportunity to learn about the role of government in regulation, as well as how other provincial and federal departments work together.
You'll be working in our Halifax office and have the opportunity to work independently on specific projects/tasks and that may take you to locations within Nova Scotia including the Department's offices in Shelburne and Truro.

About You

You are a student, currently enrolled in a post-secondary education program and returning to school in the fall or next applicable semester.

As the ideal candidate, you:

  • are familiar with computers including office software such as Microsoft Word and Excel; experience with statistical analysis is an asset
  • are organized and able to prioritize your work;
  • demonstrate excellent communication skills when responding to enquiries by phone or email;
  • consistently maintain confidentiality.

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

This is a student job posting open to students attending any of the following for the 2024-2025 curriculum year: College, University.

Pay Grade: HOURLY

Salary Range: $15.42 - $29.11 Hourly
