Work schedule: 5 days per week (Flexible schedule required, will include some evenings and weekends)
Hourly Rate: $16.55

The Destination Markham Corporation (DMC) is an arm's length municipal corporation founded as the destination management organization (DMO) for the City of Markham. Destination Markham's purpose is to promote Markham as a remarkable destination for visitors, including tourists, sport and festival attendees, meeting, and conference delegates, and business travelers. The key tourism objectives are to research, develop, market, and grow Markham's tourism/visitor economy. DMC collaborates with Markham's hotel & hospitality industry, festival-event conference-travel planners, attraction operators, cultural institutions, sports tourism promoters, entertainment and recreation providers, food service businesses and the City of Markham

Job Description:
We are seeking a dynamic and creative individual to fill the role of Web Content Creator. As part of our marketing and events team, you will play a crucial role in crafting compelling content that highlights the unique attractions, events, and activities that make Markham an exciting place to visit and explore. Through your creativity and storytelling abilities, you will help us engage with our audience and inspire them to discover all that Markham has to offer.

Key responsibilities:

  • Attend all events as per the DMC event calendar and capture content for digital platforms
  • Create digital content to support and fulfill the web content calendar's themes and itineraries, written blogs/themes and written itineraries for the DMC website
  • Aid in the development of content for all social media platforms for DMC (Instagram,"X (formerly Twitter)", Facebook, LinkedIn and YouTube)
  • Solicit Markham businesses to join and promote the Destination Markham App
  • Assist with the data management of CRM system
  • Contribute to DMC's feature ideas, video storyboard files, and mini feature videos
  • Search for appropriate photography and/or working with marketing photographer for the necessary digital content and social media posts
  • Other duties related to the marketing/events role as required

Required skills/background:

  • College/University degree in marketing, design, or similar (or currently working towards)
  • Strong understanding of various digital platforms
  • Photography / multi-media skills
  • Some experience filming and editing video content
  • Some experience writing blogs and social media content
  • Previous experience in customer service
  • Demonstrates communication skills by managing phone and email inquiries from stakeholders in a timely manner, while also showcasing good interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a variety of people, both internal and external to DMC.
  • Ability to exercise initiative and self-motivation and, at the same time, work effectively in a team environment;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of programs specifically Outlook, Word, Excel;
  • Working knowledge of Google applications including Google Drive, Google Docs and Google Sheets
  • Comfortable with lifting 30lbs

Working Conditions:

  • Ability to work evenings and/or weekends as required
  • Requirement to travel to various event sites in the Markham and Greater Toronto Area.
  • Low risk of exposure to adverse working conditions.
  • Some lifting for event set up and tear down is required.
  • Hybrid work environment.
