Human Resources Assistant (NOC: Human Resources Assistant)

Location: Flexible within Canada

JDRF is the largest non-profit organization in the world that is exclusively focused on type 1 diabetes (T1D). At JDRF, we realize that a cure is not just a destination but a journey. Our goal is to progressively remove the impact of type 1 diabetes (T1D) from people's lives and funding research into cures is our #1 priority. While we wait for cures, we also fund ground-breaking research that seeks to improve the lives of people with T1D.

JDRF is growing our team to support our ambitious plans to raise more funds than ever to accelerate research towards cures and innovative and life-changing therapies for people living with T1D.

We're currently seeking an enthusiastic Human Resources Assistant to support a variety of HR functions which include recruitment, onboarding, recognition, health and wellness and administration.

As the Human Resources Assistant, you would be responsible for:

  • Providing support in recruitment of new JDRF employees, including job postings, screening, coordinating interviews, facilitating background/references checks
  • Collecting, tracking and following-up on HR onboarding requirements, including compliance
  • Participating in the induction/payroll onboarding process; using the HRIS, entering and updating new, existing and departing employee information; administering enrollments/changes in benefit programs
  • Supporting summer hiring program coordination (Canada Summer Jobs)
  • Researching, planning and creating engaging communications for the Not Myself Today workplace mental health program and support health, safety and wellness initiatives organization-wide
  • Maintaining accurate employee files and ensure that files and all work trackers are kept organized and complete
  • Reconciling and coding HR and Payroll invoices and remittances
  • Supporting other HR programs and projects as required (may include creating virtual learning modules, recognition program support, projects to improve efficiency, employee communications)

This position is a part of the Canada Summer Jobs Program with funding provided by Service Canada. Candidates must meet the following eligibility requirements to be considered:

  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or a person on whom refugee protections has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
  • And legally entitled to work according to relevant provincial legislation and regulations (international students on a work/study permit are not eligible for the Canada Summer Jobs Program).

Our ideal candidate will also meet the following qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in Post-secondary Human Resources Management program with internship/co-op requirement
  • Related office, administrative or customer service experience is preferred
  • Aptitude for technology and ability to learn new programs quickly; experience with applicant tracking system(s) and an HRIS is an asset
  • Applied experience with Office 365 suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Teams, Sharepoint)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and previous experience corresponding with a variety of internal and external stakeholders over telephone and email in a professional setting is required
  • Service-focused with positive attitude
  • Great attention to detail and strong organizational skills are needed to handle multiple deliverables
  • Ability to handle confidential information in a professional manner at all times
  • French language skills would be an asset

Availability Requirements: This position is 30 hours per week, Monday-Thursday, daytime hours (ie: 8:30am-4:30pm) but schedule to be confirmed. This is a temporary position. The anticipated start date for this position is as soon as possible and will continue until the end of August.

Work Location: : Flexible within Canada – We are a remote-first organization so it is expected the incumbent in this role will work remotely from home.

The Human Resources Assistant will be provided with a JDRF-issued laptop with virtual collaboration tools to encourage a positive work-from-home experience.

Compensation: $21.00 per hour
