Position overview

As a Heavy Duty Equipment Technician - Apprentice , you will work as part of a dynamic multi-trade team, gaining hands-on experience and technical skills in repairing and maintaining heavy-duty equipment. With opportunities to collaborate with skilled professionals, you will contribute to the efficient operation of various machinery and vehicles, while honing your expertise in diagnosing issues, conducting repairs, and ensuring the safety and reliability of the equipment.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Diagnose, repair, adjust, overhaul, maintain, operate and test heavy duty machinery in use by the Vancouver Airport Authority which includes, but is not limited to: emergency response vehicles, fire trucks, heavy trucks, runway/apron sweepers, tractors, graders, loaders, excavators and backhoes, plows and forklifts, and miscellaneous ancillary equipment and accessories

Key qualifications include:

  • Red seal certification as an automotive service technician, supplemented by at least three years of related journeyperson experience
  • Ability to work in a team environment that includes a rotating dayshift, as well as independently with minimal supervision
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to make safety a top priority
  • Valid Class 5 BC driver's license, preference will be given to those with a Class 1, 2, or 3 license

The required hours of work are 40 hours per week, based on a rotational shift schedule.

This position is open to both Vancouver Airport Authority employees and external candidates. Previous job performance will be taken into consideration for all internal candidates that apply for this position.

Salary Range : $72,544 to $94,811 per annum, based on 40-hour work week. This is individually tailored to reflect your unique experience, qualifications and internal equity.
