Overview

The successful candidate will be responsible for all expenses and revenues that are entered into the corporate accounting software. They ensure that all payables and receivables, including employee expense claims, are accurate and current, and that weekly reports are created and distributed to the senior management team.

The Accounts Clerk works closely with our internal and external accounting professionals to maintain and analyze financial transactions. The Accounts Clerk and reports to the Bookkeeping Manager and CEO.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Review and input payables, including contractor and employee expense
  • claims, into accounting software, ensuring accuracy, and confirm designated
  • approvals, then schedule payables for timely payment.
  • Generate invoicing on a timely basis and manage receivables in accordance with the policies and procedures of the company. Identify specific details of each contract and create an automated schedule for distribution of future invoices, as applicable.
  • Independently follow up with outstanding receivables by email or phone and provide accounts receivable reporting to senior management, as required.
  • Post daily transactions in accounting software, including the creation of necessary spreadsheets to monitor divisional activity.
  • Review financial transactions and report any inconsistencies, errors or concerns to the senior management team.
  • Generate various weekly financial reports including activity reports, election expense recoverable reports, expense reports, etc.
  • Respond quickly to client and coworker emails and enquiries regarding financial transactions.
  • Attend to finance calendar to ensure invoices are created in a timely manner and that bills are paid to suppliers by the due date
  • Attend finance meetings, as required, to present financial reporting, as requested.
  • Other related tasks and duties as assigned.
Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities

● Minimum level of education: diploma in bookkeeping and/or accounting practices, or 2+ years of equivalent bookkeeping experience.

● Minimum amount of experience: 2 years

● Knowledge of accounting principles, legislation, and regulations.

● Ability to multitask while maintaining accuracy and efficiency.

● Experience working with or in support of Indigenous communities and programs.

· Resourcefulness and an aptitude for problem-solving.

· Ability to work both with a team and independently.

· Proficient and detailed understanding of Microsoft Office Suite; experience with Xero an asset.

· Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
