Overview and Purpose

Under the direction of the Deputy Registrar, the Business Analyst conducts research and analysis to design or re-design processes that align with strategic objectives and regulatory projects and initiatives.

Act as liaison between the business, internal IT team and third party vendors or consultants (if applicable) to bridge the technical and functional areas of expertise.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supports the development and evaluation of performance indicators (KPIs) and measures to monitor effectiveness of regulatory programs and initiatives and improve internal operational processes and approaches.
  • Elicits feedback from across the organization to determine what analysis, metrics, reports, and dashboards, are needed to drive improvement, and then works with the appropriate teams to build and implement them.
  • Prepares reports, briefs, and correspondence related to regulatory trends, issues, and assessments, which provide recommendations, accurate information, and advice to senior management.
  • Leverages knowledge of and proficiency with technology to further support and enhance data analysis.
  • Works with other staff in the development of business requirement documentation, communicates requirements to IT and conducts testing to ensure solutions are implemented according to specifications.
  • Participates/supports in the development and implementation of licensing and compliance processes, tool guidelines and consumer and public education materials to support continuous improvement.
  • Applies sound project management methodologies and principles to meet objectives and timelines are met, as related to assigned activities and tasks.
  • Keeps leadership apprised of the status of all assigned projects on a regular and as-needed basis through both formal reporting and informal status updates.
  • Partner with leaders to discover and articulate analytical needs; define business intelligence opportunities and synthesize the data into meaningful insights that help to drive tangible business results for the whole organization.
  • Assess existing reporting processes/tools and investigate new opportunities to enhance existing BI capabilities

Education, Skills, and Experience

  • Completion of a postsecondary degree or diploma in the areas of Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, data and information management or a related discipline - or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent.
  • BA professional certifications, an asset.
  • Minimum three (3) to five (5) years of progressively responsible data analysis experience and performing similar analyst duties in as well as experience with the implementation of business process improvements.
  • Knowledge and experience working with Microsoft Dynamics CRM and Power BI, a strong asset.
  • Experience in a non-profit or regulatory and compliance environment, an asset.
  • Excellent critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to apply this knowledge in the identification and resolution of complex business problems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including facilitation/presentation skills. Able to communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels to express goals, strategies, and concepts; able to build and maintain strong working relationships, both internal and external.
  • Self-directing: able to work with minimum supervision, and balance/manage multiple concurrent competing activities and timelines with appropriate prioritization and focus.
  • Solid understanding of Project Management Methodologies such as PMI or Prince2; experience working in both waterfall and agile methodologies including participation in spring planning and the development of epics and user stories, an asset.
  • Knowledge of technical and/or professional processes related to licensing, compliance, and enforcement, an asset.
