About the Position:

The Associate, Finance & Operations (Manager level) is an integral member of the Finance & Operations Team (FinOps) and will take a significant part in fund operations, financial reporting and audit support for the funds managed by Hazelview Investments. The role will have direct responsibilities in the net asset value production oversight and reconciliation, month-end close, financial operations (capital and investment transactions) and financial reporting as well participate in ad-hoc project on a as needed basis.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Reporting and Accounting:

  • Prepare/review daily or monthly NAVs, including the review of financial information and NAV reports prepared by fund administrators, property managers and general partners.
  • Prepare/review supporting information for legal entity-level transactions, provide details to fund administrators and ensure transactions are accurately reflected in the relevant accounting system.
  • Prepare/review financial statements, MRFP and related supporting working papers for investment funds/vehicles including private and public funds with direct real estate, private equity, publicly traded securities, and private debt.
  • Lead/assist in completing year end audit and tax compliance, including preparation of audit and tax working papers, and monitoring audit progress.

Fund Operations:

  • Provide oversight of third-party administrators and other key service providers.
  • Review net asset value calculations prepared by administrators.
  • Review inbound and outbound capital calls, distributions and redemptions.
  • Prepare valuation support for private investments and/or private debt.
  • Identify and address issues with external general partner and property manager reports.
  • Prepare debt covenant calculations for various mortgage/credit facilities and assist with credit maintenance.
  • Review bank, trust and other account reconciliations.
  • Assist with onboarding, deal support, reporting, process initiatives and projects as assigned.
  • Maintain up-to-date written processes and procedures.

Job Requirements:

  • An undergraduate degree in Business, Accounting, or related field.
  • 7+ years of private accounting (investment funds), fund accounting or property accounting experience.
  • Must have end-to-end financial statements preparation and experience with dealing with auditors.
  • Industry experience in real estate investments and/or property management, and strong understanding of internal controls, accounting principles and real estate investment, private equity, or fund operations.
  • Must have advanced skills in Excel and Word.
  • Experience with Yardi include voyager, job cost and construction management module an asset.
  • Excellent communication and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Experience interacting with senior management.
  • Flexible with a "can-do" attitude and a "no task is too big or too small" attitude.
