What's it like working as a Financial and Model Risk Manager at Community Trust Company?

As the Financial and Model Risk Manager at Community Trust Company, you will play a crucial role in the Enterprise Risk Management program. Reporting to the Director of Risk Management, you will be responsible for effective second line oversight of financial reporting, accounting, treasury and other financial risks, as well as for managing the model risk management program in line with regulatory requirements, specifically OSFI guideline E-23.

In this role, responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Financial Risk Oversight

  • Review, challenge, assess and document rationale for setting management and board level KRI's and KPI's for treasury and finance functions
  • Provide independent review and challenge on treasury and finance policy updates. Requires a strong understanding of asset and liability risk measures (Capital, Liquidity, Interest Rate, Counterparty risk metrics) and an ability to review decisions from the view of the second line of defense.
  • Perform independent review on Capital and Leverage ratio, LCR, and NCCF per the OSFI's Assurance Guideline
  • Document and assess the operating effectiveness of internal controls and procedures over financial reporting
  • Assess the accuracy and completeness of corporate financial reports, reviewing and analyzing for compliance with reporting guidelines and corporate policies, communicating issues and recommended solutions and next steps to management and making recommendations to improve future reporting accuracy.
  • Oversee the data integrity of regulatory filings and returns
  • Test for compliance with processes, policies and practices
  • Ensure cyclical and on demand reporting reviews for internal business partners and regular reporting
  • Work effectively with Internal Audit
  • Develop and execute comprehensive strategies for model risk management, including validation, monitoring, and ongoing assessments of model performance
  • Strong technical aptitude for credit and financial risk to validate complex formulas and methodologies
  • Ensures completeness of the model inventory by supporting the model inventory review process across all areas of the company and relevant model approving committees
  • Supports Senior Management and Board Reporting by coordinating and supporting the process for generating model risk reports for the Board and Senior Management
  • Supports business units and others for information requests related to model governance and model inventory requirements
  • Supports ongoing governance activities as required including attestations for compliance with model risk policy, regulatory reporting etc.
  • Supports the design, review and ongoing enhancement process for the company's spreadsheet / EUC policy, model risk framework and model risk management policy. Ensures relevant model risk processes for model inventory are followed and associated controls are in place.

  • Monitor and analyze emerging risks in the financial industry, keeping abreast of regulatory changes and industry trends
  • Foster a strong risk culture by promoting awareness, training, and communication on risk-related matters
  • Stay up-to-date with evolving industry standards and best practices

  • University degree in finance, risk management, economics, or a related field; or another advanced degree or designation
  • Professional certifications such as FRM (Financial Risk Manager) or CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) preferred
  • 2+ years of risk management, treasury, audit or a related risk identification and reporting function at an OSFI regulated institution
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make sound judgments and decisions in complex situationsExtensive experience in financial risk management, internal controls, and model risk management
  • Experience building, enhancing policies and programs associated with Financial Risk Management
  • Strong written and communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders
  • Strong knowledge on databases and systems for model inventory management
  • Strong knowledge of internal control design, implementation, testing and documentation and
  • Ability to manage competing deadlines, while producing high quality reporting/policies
  • Bring a positive, can-do attitude to our organization, using creative solutions to solve problems
  • Shows initiative when taking on new challenges
  • Use open communication and collaboration to solve problems and manage deliverables
