As a member of the senior team, the Director of Instruction for Learning Support Services reports to the Superintendent of Schools and oversees and advances equitable and inclusive education across the district to maximize the learning potential of all children. The Director is responsible for establishing departmental goals and strategies, leading change, and building the capacity of their team. The portfolio includes Learning Support; Emotional, Social, and Behavioural Support; Hearing, Vision, Speech and Language; and Early Literacy.

We are seeking a courageous and resilient leader with an extensive background in inclusive education, exceptional interpersonal skills, the ability to design system-wide strategies and to work in partnership with stakeholders including students, families, staff, community partners, and provincial organizations.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Master's degree in Special Education, Counselling or related discipline
  • A member in good standing with the Teacher Regulation Branch
  • Successful leadership experience in the public school system, preferably at both the school and district levels
  • Advanced knowledge of the BC Curriculum and Ministry of Education Inclusive Education Policies
  • Extensive experience with inclusive education and at-risk learners
  • Ability to build an effective team and create a positive adult learning environment
  • Strong change management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to make complex and ethical decisions in service of students
  • Demonstration of BCSSA's Dimensions of Practice
