The Opportunity:

McElhanney has an exciting opportunity for a Calgary-based intermediate Transportation Project Manager to join our team. Our transportation team provides a full range of services for roads, highways, trails, and transit systems. We set our work apart by beginning with the end in mind and having in-depth design guideline knowledge to take projects through every design stage, tendering, construction supervision, and contract administration.

As a Transportation Professional, you will deliver transportation and infrastructure projects by bringing together our diverse technical experts and designers to create innovative solutions to client needs. Our projects are complex, with many stakeholders and partners, so we are looking for a project leader that can make clients feel confident they are getting best-in-class service on their project and are always thinking 2-3 steps ahead.

This role is ideal for an individual that can lead, mentor, and provide technical supervision to a highly motivated team of highway design engineers and technologists, delivering design and construction projects for our clients in Calgary and surrounding areas. You will have in-depth design guideline knowledge to take projects through every design stage, tendering, construction supervision, and contract administration. You will also play a key role in supporting proposals for the pursuit of client work.

What You'll be Doing:

  • Lead small to medium infrastructure projects, ensuring responsiveness to client needs while managing project finances, schedules, and scopes. Experience in rural transportation engineering and project administration is advantageous.
  • Coordinate with a team of designers to produce cost-effective, accurate, and timely transportation engineering designs and drawings that comply with client and approval agency standards.
  • Oversee the preparation of design drawings and tender documents.
  • Attend construction site meetings and serve as the Consultant representative during construction, coordinating with clients, contractors, and field staff.
  • Ensure projects meet schedules, budgets, and quality control standards.
  • Coordinate multi-disciplinary teams, including civil, geotechnical, environmental, electrical, stormwater, structural, and architectural specialists, for seamless project delivery.
  • Maintain team engagement and work quality from concept to construction completion.
  • Respond to competitive RFPs, engage with clients, and explore opportunities to provide value-added services by leveraging our interdisciplinary teams.
  • Mentor and coach junior engineers, junior project managers, construction inspectors.

What You'll Bring:

  • Degree or diploma in Civil Engineering from an accredited institution and with 7+ years experience in Transportation engineering.
  • Registration in good standing as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) or a Professional Technologist [CET or P.Tech.(Eng)] in Alberta or in the process of obtaining the registration.
  • Proficiency in AutoCad Civil 3D and other design software, particularly in the application of roadway and highway geometric design.
  • Able to interpret client requirements and engineer solutions.
  • Proficient at preparing tender documents and writing technical provisions
  • Direct experience with Alberta Transportation standards, approval processes and management divisions is an asset.
  • Has a proven track record of coordinating inter-disciplinary rural projects.
  • Strong industry reputation and network connections in Calgary and the surrounding areas.
  • Excellent at establishing shared clarity in communications and coordinating teams.
  • Demonstrate a track record of maintaining satisfied clients and delivering on time and budget.
  • Attention to detail and excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Ability to work independently within a busy and high-performing team
  • Experience in training/supervising/mentoring junior technical staff

The salary range for this position is $88,000- $132,000 per annum . McElhanney offers fair compensation that is commensurate with the individual's education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The posted base salary/wage range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting. The salary offered will be based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.
