POSITION PURPOSE

The Athletic Trainer works under the direction and supervision from the staff Physical and Occupational Therapists, assists with restoration of patient functioning to prevent disability following injury, disease, or physical disability. The Athletic Trainer will assess, plan, or implement fitness programs that include exercise or physical activities such as those designed to improve cardio respiratory function, body composition, muscular strength, endurance, and flexibility for individual clients or groups. While at sporting events, the Athletic Trainer conducts an initial assessment of an athlete's injury or illness in order to provide emergency or continued care to the patient and determine whether the patient should be referred to a physician for definitive diagnosis and treatment. The Athletic Trainer evaluates an athletes' readiness to play and provides participation clearance as necessary, under the guidance of a Physical or Occupational Therapist. The Athletic Trainer applies protective or injury preventive devices such as tape, bandages, or braces to body parts such as ankles, fingers, and wrists. Also, assesses and reports the progress of recovering athletes to the coaches, Physical and Occupational Therapists and Physicians.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

  • Responsible for providing and monitoring specific treatments as directed by qualified medical personnel.
  • Adheres to standards and protocols of physical medicine practice for pediatric, adolescent, geriatric patients and the general patient population.
  • Provide athletic training services for practices and home athletic contests on a schedule cooperatively determined by school admin and MPMC supervisors.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of injuries, treatments, and services rendered, and provide to medical team as requested.
  • Develop and maintain a budget for the athletic training program.
  • Comply with all MPMC and school policies and procedures.
  • Communicate status and changes in condition (physical or mental) to staff therapist, hospital, and school personnel, and parents as appropriate.
  • Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and

reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors including maintenance of training room supplies and equipment.

  • Develops and leads community health, wellness, sports performance, individual/group fitness and injury prevention programs.
  • Creates and maintains policies and procedure guiding athletic training services.
  • Clerical and facility duties as needed including but not limited to scheduling, insurance authorization, answering phones and cleaning.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Graduate of an accredited athletic training education program
  • Current licensure by the State of Colorado to practice as an Athletic Trainer
  • Current BLS certification within 60 days from hire
  • BS in Athletic Training, Exercise Science or Exercise Physiology preferred
  • Group fitness certification preferred
  • Ability to take direction from health care professionals
  • Ability to use computers for scheduling and patient documentation

Status: Full-Time

Salary: $24.72 – $32.25 per hour DOE Housing Stipend available for residents of Grand, Summit and Jackson County.
