The successful candidate is responsible for supporting the Chief Risk Officer in aligning the risk management vision and strategy and maintaining a current view of SGI and its regional operations' risk profile. You will develop and recommend enterprise risk management (ERM) policies, evaluate the ERM framework, and ensure effective execution of the processes for assessing, measuring and monitoring enterprise risks. You will also lead and build out the Risk Management department to support achievement of SGI's risk management vision.

Key Accountabilities

ERM Policies and Processes

Develops, reviews, and updates the ERM policies and frameworks for endorsement by the Risk Management Steering Committee and approval by the Board of Directors, and communicates the ERM policies and changes thereof to all divisions.

Coordinates organization-wide risk identification, assessment, mitigation and measurement through the facilitation of the annual update of the corporate risk register.

Provides consultative support to divisions on risk management and the application of the ERM process.

Identifies risk management and ERM best practices and share the practices with the corporation, thereby continuously improving the ERM process.

Raises awareness and provides training and education on risk management and ERM.

Assists risk owners in evaluating significant corporate risks.

Provides consultative support to risk owners and divisions on risk management and the application of the risk management process.

Advises on risks related to new initiatives, strategic decision making and major changes in strategy.

Provides information to senior management regarding new risk related topics and initiatives.

Develops, manages and/or supports special projects designed to materially improve the corporate risk profile.

Insurance

Reviews the current corporate insurance coverage and provides recommendations for improvements to the CRO

Facilitates the renewal of the corporate insurance program and works with other divisions to update underwriting information.

Assists divisions in the assessment of applicable risk treatments, which may include insurance.

Leadership

Actively contributes to and supports a culture of a high performing workforce.

Participates in divisional succession plans, ensuring ongoing professional and career development and supports development in others.

Supports a culture of leadership and accountability to effectively deliver on strategic and corporate strategies.

Is actively committed to leadership development across the company, supporting team and workforce readiness through mentoring, training and developmental opportunities.

Corporate Management

Enables the success of programs and policies that are in alignment with corporate, strategic and divisional strategies.

Manages risk in area of authority.

Ensures that the Health, Safety and Emergency Management Policy is applied in area of responsibility.

Education and Experience

Four-year degree from an accredited post-secondary education institution in risk management, economics or finance.

A risk management designation (Canadian Risk Management – CRM) or Finance Designation (Chartered Financial Analyst – CFA) or a commitment to pursue either designation.

Ten years directly related experience in the field of risk management and insurance.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of risk management and ERM principles and processes.

Knowledge of insurance principles and processes, and the insurance industry.

Knowledge of financial analysis methods and tools.

Knowledge of regulatory financial compliance.

Knowledge of financial planning and control techniques and procedures.

Knowledge of financial recording, reporting, and operating reports.

Knowledge of all areas of the corporation including regional operations.

Ability to define and manage project and operating budgets.
