Job Description:

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer on our Engineering Services team, you will provide tank integrity engineering, planning, and coordination services in support of Irving Oil's Tank Life Extension (TLE) Program. In this role, you will be supporting Canada's largest oil refinery in Saint John, NB as well as Irving Oil's network of terminal facilities throughout Atlantic Canada and the US eastern seaboard. You will regularly visit the Saint John Refinery to review field conditions associated with your design activities, and you may be asked to travel occasionally to other locations in support of your work. You will rely on your experience and judgment to independently plan and accomplish goals while providing mentorship and guidance to less experienced team members.

Your Responsibilities:

  1. Provide Lead Engineering input to the development of a Tank Prioritization Tool based on the principles of API RP 580, risk-based inspection, with PoF (Potential of Failure) and CoF (Cost of Failure) factors derived from API STD 653 "Tank Inspection, Repair, Alteration and Reconstruction".
  2. Provide Engineering input to the integrity risk assessment by tank, and provide a recommendation of tank inspection priorities.
  3. Develop and maintain Irving Oil standard tank details and drawings.
  4. Provide input in the development of Program Process documents and procedures related to Engineering.
  5. Creation and review of EWO and work packages provided by Contractors for the execution of repairs and maintenance.

Your Experience:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Engineering (B.Sc. or B.Eng.) with P. Eng. eligibility in the Province of New Brunswick.
  2. Minimum 5 years of tank integrity engineering experience in a refinery / petrochemical / oil and gas industry setting.
  3. A working knowledge of procedures and best industry practices for tank repairs such as tank cleaning, inspection, welding, material selection, and application, or be capable of quickly learning procedures as identified in API standards and practices relating to aboveground storage tanks and pressure vessels (bullets and spheres).
