Salary Range: $77,335.00 - $110,479.00

A typical day for the Senior Governance Advisor

This role works very closely with APS' Executive Team and the APS Board of Directors. The Senior Governance Advisor acts as a go-between for the Board and the Executive Team to ensure that the Board meets their requirements, but also that the Executive Team is providing the right materials. Atypical day might include the following:

  • Provide administrative support in respect of the planning and holding of board/committee meetings.
  • Prepare written briefings, agendas and meeting packages for boards and committees.
  • Draft minutes and correspondence for boards and committees that accurately reflect the business conducted and decisions made.
  • Draft and update governance documents relating to the activities of the boards and committees, such as annual or multi-year plans, education plans and lists of relevant conferences and seminars, policies and procedures, annual member self-evaluation surveys and results, electronic surveys and polls, and various reports.
  • Complete expense and remuneration claims for board and committee members.
  • Provide administrative support for Governance Secretariat functions, including scheduling and maintaining calendars, organizing meetings (agendas, educational topics, speakers, minute taking, etc.), electronic records/filing and retrieval system, coordination and planning of travel and events, including tracking costs and managing registrations.

What you bring

  • University degree and at least two or more years of directly related experience or experience as a paralegal/legal assistant within a law firm environment; or,
  • Diploma or certificate in paralegal studies or communications with at least five or more years of directly related experience as a paralegal/legal assistant within a law firm environment.

Knowledge

  • Experience in governance practices, including, without limitation, agenda preparation, meeting package production and minute taking.
  • Knowledge of mandates and general business of boards and committees, in addition to their reporting structures, policies, procedures and practices, board governance models and applicable rules of order.
  • Experience in policy research and writing policies.
  • Thorough knowledge of Office 365 applications.

Skills

  • Excellent comprehension, writing, editing and proofreading skills are a must
  • Well-developed analytical skills with an understanding of how to gather data, analyze information, and summarize conclusions.
  • Strong procedural skills to manage complex information flows and to develop and implement business processes.
  • Effective client service skills and interpersonal skills to enable working with diverse groups of people and building collaborative relationships to deal with multiple functional areas and process piece owners.
  • High degree of initiative, tact, professionalism, integrity, political acumen and independent judgement given the close working relationship with board and committee members.
  • Effective presentation skills, including the preparation of briefing material, handouts and presentations about updates and proposed changes to processes, governance policy or reporting.
  • Skills with Adobe Creative Suite is desirable, but not required.
