The Safety Coordinator Position

The Safety Coordinator will coordinate and implement the health and safety management system for the organization while assisting in the development and implementation of programs, procedures, work instructions, and forms in support of the Safety Management System. Coordinators are responsible for supporting the yard Safety Manager, providing advice and training on safety protocols, and conducting audits and inspections to ensure compliance. The Coordinator will work closely with the yard Safety Manager, Human Resources, the Ability Management team, and Labour Relations in closely handling worker injuries and any work accommodations.

Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at our Operations Center at 50 Pemberton Avenue in North Vancouver.

What you'll do
  1. Reviews, revises, and implements site-specific programs, procedures, and work instructions.
  2. Ensures all activities comply with site HSE requirements and legislation.
  3. Investigates accidents and near-misses and liaises with key stakeholders and management to identify causes of accidents and prevent their recurrence through the application of suitable corrective actions.
  4. Provides advice and training on safety protocols and conducts inspections and audits to ensure compliance with the organization and government standards related to employee health and safety.
  5. Provides new employee and sub-contractor orientation sessions.
  6. Conducts site safety tours for visitors (customers, potential customers, contractors, government agencies, etc.).

What you'll bring
  1. Bachelor's Degree, Diploma, or Certificate in Health & Safety, or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  2. 5 years of relevant experience including developing, implementing, and auditing health & safety management systems and field work.
  3. Demonstrated experience in the performance of hazard and/or risk assessments, including those required for working at heights and confined space entry.
  4. Any of the following certifications/designations: CRSP, CSP, ROH, CIH.
