About this opportunity
Our client is looking for a special individual to fill their Senior Property Underwriter Position.
The right individual will need to have 10+ years' Commercial Property experience, with a good working knowledge and expertise in all US states commercial property underwriting and will be tasked with growing a national book of business.
This role reports ultimately to the London-based CUO and also the Head of Reinsurance in Bermuda. The CEO and CFO are based in the US. The Bermuda office has a flat reporting structure and, given its size, a quasi-start-up culture.
The Senior Underwriter creates and maintain or relationships with the carrier, brokers, company's staff and the MGA, ensuring high levels of organizational effectiveness and communication. The holder of this position sets the culture and tone for the company's clients, fellow employees, so a positive attitude and demeanour are crucial.
Job duties:
- Assess risk of original policies and conduct audits on MGA clients
- Determine appropriate terms and conditions for reinsurance contracts
- Determine the risk involved in ensuring a client and develop proper pricing
- Research industry trends and regulations and how they impact reinsurance underwriting
- Researches and provides underwriting analysis of account information and ensures overall regulatory compliance
- Assist with fronting carrier discussions to develop the nationwide program
- Provide guidance on the junior underwriting assistants
- Monitor and review existing reinsurance contracts to prepare for renewals
- Manages account documentation and ensures file completeness and quality
- Review and report inconsistencies in reinsurance bordereau reports
- Assist in preparation for and conduct reinsurance underwriting reviews
What you'll need
- Possess an understanding and expertise in Commercial Property programs, with 10+ years in Senior Property Underwriter experience
- Understand how insurance programs work from end to end (reporting claims, endorsements, audits etc), to be able to analyse accounts from an underwriting perspective and oversee programs from the perspective of the issuer
- Candidates with existing relationships with fronting carriers and other reinsurers will be preferred
- Expertise in nationwide/all states US commercial property underwriting
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Home office work area and high-speed internet capability
- Excellent written/verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently, and to interact with, internal staff, department managers
