The Opportunity:

WSP has an opportunity for a Field Archaeologist to join our Heritage team in our Saskatoon location for the 2024 season. You will gain valuable and diverse work experience as part of our large regional heritage team and will have opportunities to work on multidisciplinary projects that will contribute to your professional development. The successful candidate will be hired to support existing project work, which is anticipated to start in May 2024 and extend through to late fall. This is a temporary hourly position that may have variable hours.

What you can expect to do here:

  • Carrying out archaeological survey, test excavation, and mitigative excavation under the direction of a qualified Permit Holder;
  • Working in a variety of environments, including all-weather conditions, rugged and semi-remote locations, and overnight accommodations in a camp or hotel setting;
  • Performing other office duties as required, including but not limited to, field mobilization, artifact analysis, reporting, and research;
  • Participating in WSP's Health & Safety program;
  • Demonstrating a "Safety First" focus and acting as a role model to other staff and complying with the WSP Fit for Duty Policy.

What you'll bring to WSP :

  • Archaeology, Anthropology or related degree from a recognized program, or nearing completion;
  • Basic knowledge of Northern Plains and Boreal Forest archaeology and artifact identification would be an asset;
  • Physically able and willing to perform fieldwork in a variety of remote and challenging conditions for variable durations;
  • Strong organizational, written and verbal communications skills;
  • Familiarity with standard data collection equipment such as GPS and hand-held tablets;
  • Solid MS Office skills;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work effectively with other staff, clients and Indigenous community members;
  • Ability to take direction and work in both a team environment as well as independently;
  • Valid driver's license (Class 5);
  • ATV/UTV and First Aid Certification would be considered an asset.
