The successful candidate will work closely with Camera Motion Systems product management and R&D to design, write, edit and proof-read manuals, quick start guides, and other product documentation and visualisations as they are released. Subject matter includes descriptive and procedural information about hardware and software products.

The role will focus on Ross Camera Motion Systems which deliver state-of-the-art robotic products for the broadcast industry including co-operation with 3 rd party OEM vendors.

This is a hybrid role, located at our Ottawa facility.

Reports to: Product Operations Manager

What the job is all about:

  • In depth understanding, and accurate execution of the Ross Technical Writing Workflow, and Style Guide.
  • Accountable for the quality of work delivered for the specific project.
  • Create user-oriented documentation targeting reader of all technical levels.
  • Propose improvements / innovation to documentation structure in line with CMS targets and product management vision.
  • Provide regular status report updates to the management team.
  • Act as an occasional trainer for other employees.
  • Become a subject matter expert for Ross Video products.
  • Follow company policies and procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Who you are:

  • Post-secondary degree in English, Journalism, or related area with experience in technical writing is required
  • 5+ Years of technical writing or directly related experience.
  • Knowledge of best-in-class documentation processes for Hardware and Software products
  • Knowledge of technical product development lifecycle(s) is desired
  • Experience with collaborative and or iterative development model(s) is desired, including Agile project tracking tools such as Jira.
  • Knowledge of Adobe Technical Communications Suite (Robohelp, FrameMaker), Creative Cloud (Illustrator, Photoshop, Premiere Rush), Microsoft Suite, Bookstack and eDrawings an asset
  • A strong attention for detail and a critical mindset
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
  • Self-starter, quick learner and are able to work with minimum supervision
  • Passionate about learning new technologies
  • Able to work independently or as part of a team
  • Hybrid working – home/office split to be agreed.
  • Office Environment and in some cases work occurs in the lab area
  • Moderate noise in office area and lab areas
