Job Purpose:
To provide the Plant with a high level of Power Engineering expertise that ensures company objectives are supported, maintenance goals are efficiently and effectively met, departmental downtime goals and preventative maintenance schedules are achieved. To carry out equipment and building repairs as required, while adhering to quality, safety, food safety and legislative standards and guidelines.
Work Shifts Monday - Thursday (10 x 4 Hours)
Start Time APPROX: 12:00 PM - 3:00 PM
Job Functions /Responsibilities
Operates and maintains stationary mechanical equipment, such as steam boilers and ammonia refrigeration plants.
Provide utilities, heating and cooling for buildings and Industrial processes.
Read meters and gauges and/or automatic recording devices at hourly intervals to verify operating conditions.
Troubleshoot equipment problems and perform immediate repairs and preventative maintenance on equipment.
Overhaul and install new equipment.
Records data, such as temperature of equipment, hours of operation, fuel consumed temperature or pressure, water levels and chemical levels.
Adjust manual controls or overrides automatic controls to bring equipment into recommended or prescribed operating ranges, switch to backup equipment or systems, or to shut down equipment.
Visually inspects equipment on hourly intervals to detect malfunctions or need for repair, adjustment or lubrication.
Maintains equipment by tightening fittings, repacking bearings, replacing packing glands, gaskets, valves, recorders and gauges.
May perform water titration tests and pour chemical additives such as water softener into treatment tank to prevent scale build up and to clean boiler lines.
Record operation and maintenance actions taken during shift operator's logbook.
Maintains safe and healthy work environment by following and enforcing standards, procedures and complying with legal regulations.
Perform routine maintenance work on machinery.
Generates parts requests to ensure adequate inventory.
Complete work orders as assigned by Maintenance Manager/ Maintenance Supervisor and/or Chief Engineer.
Perform general housekeeping in the maintenance department and maintain the cleanliness of the shops, etc.
Operate and maintain effluent treatment plant.
Pump and maintain cooking oil storage.
Perform other duties as required, such as: pumping oil, cooking oil management, regular routine maintenance of effluent treatment plant, etc.
Have full knowledge of the Emergency Response Plan to deal with all emergencies and security threats in a systematic and organized manner as per Grand River Foods Emergency Response Plan.
Check and verify proper functionality of the Fire Alarm system, also perform the Maintenance check list when applicable.
Able to perform repair, replacement, preventive maintenance and troubleshooting in the following items: tubing, fittings and air supply, pressure devises, level switch, temperature sensor, flow meters, regulators and valves, machinery lubrication, alignment of machinery, power drives, identify machine components, water pumps, pneumatic systems, hydraulic system, vacuum systems, fans and blowers, select pipes, valves and fittings, control system (sensor, limit switch, PLC reading input/output feedback), compressors, all filters, belts, bearings, gear box, chains, welding.
Microsoft Excel: Create spreadsheet, print, etc.
Microsoft Word: Know how to write a report, create PDFs, attached pictures, format the file, print, etc.
CMMS System: create work orders, update the system, close work orders, etc
Email: create and manage emails.
Qualification:
Must hold a valid 4th Class Power Engineering certification or higher.
Have 1 to 3 years related experience preferred.
Able to work flexible shifts.
Ability to read blueprints and drawing schematics of machinery.
Ability to follow OEM specifications and schematics (hydraulic, pneumatic).
Previous PLC knowledge is an asset.
Mechanically inclined and have manual dexterity required for operating machinery and computers.
Able to pass a fit test mask and TRST supplied by Company.
Experience in a Food Processing & Cooking Meat Facility is an asset.
Ability to read, write and comprehend English.

Be able to work independently, as well as being a strong team player.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Have a good attendance and safety record.
Tools Required:
Steel toe/heel rubber boots. Boots must be in good, clean repair and have good tread at all times
Hairnet, Clean smock, Hearing protection, Rubber gloves, Arm sleeves, Safety hats (when applicable), Safety goggles / glasses
General tool equipment such as wrenches, hammers, screwdrivers etc.
Powered tools such as grinders, saws, etc
Working Conditions:
Exposure to wet/cold/warm/hot conditions
Exposure to excessive noise
Physically demanding (lifting, pushing/pulling, bending)
Standing/bending/crouching for prolonged periods of time
